Pakistan came under new criticism about its security forces Thursday as dramatic footage emerged of the cricket attackers making a leisurely getaway from the scene of their deadly assault.
The images of the gunmen calmly walking off, without police or security forces chasing them, will add to speculation swirling around Tuesday's brazen daytime attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team that left eight people dead.
Pakistan is steeped in political violence, and suspicion has fallen mainly on Islamic militants linked to Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Police have brought in around two dozen people for questioning but so far have no leads.
Up to 12 men attacked the convoy of officials, coaches and players, firing automatic weapons, grenades and a rocket launcher as the vehicles approached the cricket ground in the city of Lahore. The attackers fled without a trace.
The new footage, captured by closed-circuit cameras, showed two suspects wearing rucksacks and ambling down the road, apparently untroubled after the carnage took place. They then jump on motorbikes and speed off.
"We are doing our best to unravel the conspiracy," Lahore police chief Habib-ur Rehman told AFP.
Police released sketches of four suspects but have made no breakthrough in the case. No one has claimed responsibility for the assault, which killed six police and two civilians, and wounded 19 people.
Pakistan lawmakers accused the government of a "serious security lapse" and highlighted reports that the authorities were warned of a possible attack.

It’s good to see Obama’s Pock-ee-ston policy working so well.
Thank god we gave them billions of dollars of the past few years.
It’d be worth billions more to help musharif back into power.
Musharraf (or more clearly, the Army) never left power. Only the most naive would think that the civilian government in Pakistan has any real power of its own.
Musharif was far better than these clowns in power now.
Don’t be surprised to see the Pakistan Military take control of the Government again and declare Marshal Law.
Musharraf was “better” because the army called all the shots then and didn’t necessarily look helpless-if anything, things started falling apart under Musharraf-the question is how much power do the clowns ruling now have??
I agree.
a shell game, give us some money, and we won’t train terrorist, fine print:
training of terrorist depends on moon phase, amount of opium
ingested and ferver of the jihadist who have no other reason to live anyway as everyone thinks they suck...
Nice Job Condi Thanks for bad mouthing musharif He was the only thing holding that craphole together.
Look on the bright side.
No jihadis were killed, nor was there any returning fire.
Jihadis upon realizing their potential hostages or kills had escaped, casually sauntered off through the bazaars of Lahore, streets and alleys where they’re strolling eerily empty for a city in India.
Like everyone knew what was going on and followed a sense of discretion.
So, city police drawdown, no Army troops in sight, a total humiliation to the elites of Lahore, a moderately well planned ambush by seeming confident, if not cocky jihadis.
What’s not to like? Inja Rising, Pakistan Burning. Inshallah.
But Musharraf, despite his heart wanting to destroy India, understood that Pakistan’s bete noire had the upper hand, and Pakistan’s raison d’etre, the ethereal incorporation of Kashmir into Pakistan, was at best, for now, a chimera, until America left Afghanistan.
I still have lots of doubts-I for one don’t believe that the Lankans were never meant to be killed. This was a dry run-the main spectacle is likely to be at the IPL or some big tour of India. Which is why the Indian government appears shaky over the IPL.
