Once upon a time, you could drive to the most remote reaches of the United States and escape Rush Limbaugh. But from the Mogollon Mountains of New Mexico to the Badlands of South Dakota, where only the delicious twang of a country tune or the high-pitched pleadings of a lone lunatic came over the AM dial, there is now the Mighty El Rushbo. As someone who spends a lot of time on the road, I used to find Limbaugh to be an obnoxious but entertaining companion, his eruptions more reliable than Old Faithful. But now that Limbaugh has become something else the face of the Republican Party, by a White House that has played him brilliantly he has been transformed into car-wreck-quality spectacle, at once scary and sad.

must be more copies of the WH script floating around than i thought. but then i am naive, aint I?
Exactly.
How will the NYT take it if we win that Special Election, in New York, later this month?
Hey Egan enjoy your New York Soup Kitchens.
Rule #11:
Pick a target,Freeze it, polarize it. Identify a responsible individual. Ignore attempts to shift or spread the blame.
Mr. Eagan is yet another disciple a Saul Alinsky.
Escape Rush Limbaugh?
I have two really neat features on my radio that Mr. Eagan must be missing. One lets me change the station, the other lets me turn it off.
RDS... It’s the new BDS.
What an ignorant post.....by a loon “esquire”...who works for a “has been” rag.
..any spare pesos NYT?
NYT. Nothing to learn here. Move along ....
P-I writer in residence Timothy Egan on Seattle
...the Seattle P-I.
Egan sure can pick 'em.
No wonder he's cranky. He's gonna need a day job.
Perhaps he will park his vehicle in a bad area and return to find his radio, wheels, wheel covers, hood ornament all missing. That would solve his problem!
I worked with a news photographer once who was called out at 4 am to cover a fire. He hops in his car, cranks it up, puts in reverse and begins to back out of his driveway. But he doesn’t go anywhere! Engine speeds up, but no movement. He gets out to see what’s wrong and finds his car is on four cement blocks, sans wheels, etc. Cost him nearly $1,600 to get going again. And we missed getting photos of the fire!

Hey. Mr. Egan....
Timothy Egan is a pathetic liberal elite - attacks the individual to avoid an honest debate on the issues.
That the current admistration shows more concern about an American Citizen excercising his 1st Ammendment Right than for the Islamofascists is very telling.
That this author is supportive of that position is even more illuminating.
It’s OK, Timmy - we understand your anger and despair.
We’d be frustrated too if our ‘Chosen One’ had not only stumbled out of the starting gate, but completely wrapped himself around it. It must be painful to realize that not only is Barack not the Second Coming of Christ, but he is nothing more than an inexperienced political hack from the Chicago machine who will be remembered by future historians for driving the once mighty U.S. economy straight into a depression.
Not quite the legacy you were looking for, is it?
And yet Mr Egan continues to listen? Has he never heard of XM or Sirius Satellite Radio, where he could listen commercial free to whatever he wanted?
And if Mr Limbaugh is so ubiquitous on American AM radio, why is that Mr Egan? Could it be that people like listening to him and agree with much of what he says? That he is indeed popular, and has a listening audience larger than the viewing audiences of Larry King, Keith Olberman, Chris Mathews, Anderson Cooper, and maybe even Katie Couric combined?
Rush could purchase 51% of the New York Times for one week ‘s cigar budget.
Interesting, isn't it? When someone complains about pornography or other objectionable content, the libs fight each other to be the first to scream, "Just change the station!" When it comes to talk radio and Fox News, though, all the knobs are mysteriously frozen. Lousy stinking lying hypocrites.
