Does Obama sense panic on Card Check?
The DC Examiner ^ | March 4, 2009

Posted on 03/04/2009 1:50:00 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

President Barack Obama is in the second month of his administration and Congress still hasn’t passed the Employee Free Choice Act – aka Card Check – to abolish the secret ballot in workplace employee representation elections. So, the Big Labor bosses who spent more than $300 million in 2008 to get the best Democratic president and Congress that dues money can buy are getting antsy. Yesterday Obama offered an AFL-CIO gathering a video message reassuring them that “we will pass the Employee Free Choice Act.” Note that Obama conspicuously said nothing about when he expects Card Check to become law.

Guess what else – the Obama message was videotaped nearly two weeks ago, and a lot has happened since then. A growing number of Democrats in Congress are having second thoughts about Card Check, according to the liberal blog Huffington Post, which headlined its March 2 post with “Worry grows over Democrat defections on EFCA.” Huffington noted that “right after the election, union officials were adamant that EFCA be considered within the president's first year in office. Now, however, there seems to be a loosening of the deadline.”

Barky buys a lot of trouble if he tries to do this right now.

In the House, a number of Democrats from marginal districts pressured Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama to move the bill to the Senate rather than have the House act on it. And it’s worth noting that the Obama Administration has not made any public comments on this bill lately. I think Big Labor has overreached. They claim to have the votes to override a filibuster in the Senate (as Al Franken appears more likely than not to be Senator), but there is nervousness in their ranks now.

Good. Hope this stinking legislation doesn’t even get close to being voted on.

NO - it is coming soon. Barak Mugabe still has the numbers in Congress, and this is high on his list.

This is a law worthy of state level nullification.

This cannot stand.

The Democrats will pass this. They have promised their supporters they will. They just need to hide in some other bill that they can pass in the middle of the night without anyone reading it. Or they will let this bill die and then rename it something else and then pass it. Don’t get optimistic about this. It has already been bought and paid for.

Shouldn't be a problem for Obama since none of the Leftwingtards believe in democracy anyway.

He can just ask the Nancyperson to call up the bill and move on it and it will be done.

Just what IS the supposed rationale behind this laughingly misnamed “Employee Free Choice Act”? As long as there has been elections, it has been recognized that the secret ballot is what prevents intimidation and allows anyone to vote his or her true choice.

Take away the secret ballot and it become obvious who the dissenters are, thus allowing those with less-than-pure motives to apply pressure — all KINDS of pressure — to ensure everyone votes the way they “are supposed to”.

I know this is their ultimate goal. Anyone with half of a semi-active brain cell can see that. But they can’t actually put it that way, so what IS their supposed motivation.

Anyone know? I can’t figure it out.

>>...apply pressure — all KINDS of pressure...<<

I think tempers would flare and that pressure could work both ways.

Everyone knows where the union offices are and they are not hardened.

I am so glad I got out of unions back in the 1970’s.

Texas will probably be out in front doing that then. Right to work state. And they take it seriously.

The other day, George McGovern, biggest liberal on earth, ran a radio ad AGAINST card check. Hard hitting ad too.

“This will put many businesses out of business.”

No it won’t. The most likely outcome is that employees will escort union organizers to the door before they can open their little portfolios.

This bill puts the unions into the role of a threat to the individual worker. And that won’t be taken lightly.

If unions are such a good deal, why do they amount to only 7% of the private work force?

Cause workers don’t want unions in their workplace. This bill will just harden resistance to unions.

And union thugs have no patent on harrasment and violent thuggery.

After McGovern exited political life, he started a hotel or inn. He was astounded at how roughly the government treats small businesses.

If I remember correctly, in a letter to the WSJ, he said “It is a beaurocrat’s dream and a businessman’s nightmare”.

He closed the business after losing a good deal of money.

If the democratic party continues on their current trend of making laws and taxing everything not nailed down; there will be no Congress. Your time is almost up, Ladies and Gentlemen. There will be no further need for you. Your useful uselessness has expired. If for some magic reason; you get to stay and I doubt it very much; your job will be changed into a community service one probably with very little or no pay. That’s the rules our new President set out. Community work is what it’s all about.

Boy, are you being led over the clift.
