Timothy Geithner responded on Wednesday to Republican criticism that the administration wants to increase taxes during a recession. Geithner noted that tax increases on couples making more than $250,000 per year would not take effect until 2011.

Hmm, I wonder how Reagan LOWERED taxes on everyone (including the wealthy) and got us out of the 1981-1982 recession AND increased revenues to the federal government.

"Geithner noted that tax increases on couples making more than $250,000 per year would not take effect until 2011." That's when Bush's tax cuts expire and the federal income tax rates go up on low income, middle income, and high income. So that means the high income will get two tax increases.

Geithner noted that tax increases on couples making more than $250,000 per year would not take effect until 2011. If the times are so desperate, why wait to increase taxes after the 2010 Congressional elections? Why not do it before?
