Dear Friend,
Its no small secret that for some time Ive been giving serious consideration to running for Governor. This past weekend, after a great deal of thought and prayer, after talking things over with my family with my wife, Natalie and our children Madison, Jeb, and Ross and after seeking the advice of close friends, Ive made my decision.
Today, Im excited to tell you that I will seek the Republican nomination for Governor of the great state of South Carolina in 2010.
Weve put together a short video about why Im running for Governor, and I hope youll take just a minute to watch it. But, just in case youre in a hurry or reading this on a cell phone, I did want to tell you a little about myself and share a few quick thoughts with you.
The one question that I received over and over again when I was talking with my friends and family about running was, Why do you want to be Governor?
My answer is really very simple:
I believe South Carolina has tremendous potential, despite our serious challenges. I feel God has blessed me with strong experiences in running a small business, raising a family, serving in our military, and leading in elected office that give me a unique conservative perspective on the challenges we face and how to fix them. I believe I have certain strengths in these uncertain times. And I believe we have to hold on to our conservative values, and change the things that hold us back.
I learned my values at my familys furniture store in Westminster and from The Citadel in Charleston: hard work, community, and commitment to causes greater than self. I have been blessed with an incredible family, friendship, and opportunity, and I believe in giving back.
My vision for the future of South Carolina is filled with prosperity and promise: Make South Carolina a national model for job creation by incentivizing existing and new business to invest in our people and communities, creating thousands of high paying jobs, and getting our economy back on track. Reduce government spending by restructuring, eliminating wasteful spending and making the tough decisions to cut government fat even when times are good. Reforming health care with common sense, free market solutions that empower patients and doctors to make decisions and control costs. Fixing K-12 education with new ideas for old problems innovation, competition and accountability that work for children and parents and rewards good teachers. Respect our culture, promote our families, and protect life. Government shouldnt dictate our values, but it should reflect them. I know its early. I know other fine candidates will be getting into this race. But, I need your support and I need you to do three things for me today: pray for God to give me wisdom and guidance, sign-on as a supporter of our campaign by clicking here, and, yes, make a financial contribution so that we can get our positive conservative message to the people of South Carolina.
I cannot put into words how humbled and honored I would be to have your support. If you ever have questions about my position on the issues or just want to get more involved with the campaign, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you, and I thank you for your time.
God Bless you and your family.
Sincerely,
Gresham Barrett
Oh boy another RINO running for Gov.
We’ll be hard pressed to find another Governor as good as our current one. I’m going to miss Sanford!
Is Sanford term limited?
In Va. a Governor can serve only one term. I don’t understand that.
>>Oh boy another RINO running for Gov.
RINO???
http://www.ontheissues.org/House/Gresham_Barrett.htm
100% rating NRLC, 0% rating HRC, 18% rating NEA, 100% rating by the Christian Coalition, A rating by NRA, 0% rating by SANE, 76% rating by NTU, gave his 2009 pay raise to charity in protest, co-sponsered the FairTax.
That hardly seems like a RINO to me.
If he went to The Citadel he’s a good man. It says alot.
since he’s my congressman and you evidently know nothing about him....
According to an analysis done by GovTrack.us Barrett is arguably the most conservative member of the U.S. House of Representatives
And definitely NOT GUILTY!
I tell you what, I'd definitely hit it!
(did I miss any?)
As a man I expected, hoped for, more from the women on this forum.:-)
I think women that act so crass is tacky.
Plus, the guy is married with kids.
I’d hit it....
Was that a series comment? If so, based on what?
Gresh hurt himself when he voted against TARP the 1st time, then voted for TARP the 2nd time. And his opponents aren’t going to let anybody forget about it. That said, he’s still the most conservative guy running so far. I voted for him in my precinct straw poll.
Lot's of good men went to the Citadel, but so did the head of Knight Ridder. Forgot the name of the guy but he was honored at a homecoming I attended. To get more liberal than Knight Ridder your name would have to be Chris "my leg tingles" Matthews.
All that aside, I'm a huge Gresham Barrett supporter. Just don't judge all Citadel graduates by the old school.
I don't want to get into a flame war over it, but I am one of those opponents based on the TARP vote and his responses to me concerning that vote.
The first time it (TARP) came up, Barrett voted against it exactly as he should have. But after the bill had gone back and been "porked up" with billions more, he voted for it.
I immediately fired off and angry email. When I eventually received a response, Rep. Barrett indicated that he had bought into the "We're going over a cliff" mentality. Nowhere did he adequately explain how the version that was full of pork would save our economy any more than the one that wasn't. Later, when the auto bailout was becoming a possibility, I wrote again to encourage him to vote against it, reminding him of his previous mistake. He wrote back saying that he intended to vote against the auto bailout, but went on and on justifying the TARP vote.
Now we know that the TARP was just these clowns sucking on the hose that leads to our wallets in order to get the siphon effect started.(Some of us had that figured out way back then.) I look at Barrett's vote for the TARP no differently than I see the votes of Specter, Snowe, and Collins on the stimulus. I don't personally care what REPUBLICANS do anymore, but I expect those who claim to be CONSERVATIVE to act, and vote like it.
So, yeah, I am one of those South Carolinians who will be against Barrett until it is evident that he has educated himself to what all of these bailouts are about and what the democrats and rino republicans are up to. I don't want a Governor who is as gullible, and wrong headed on the economy as Barrett was on TARP. I will actively work against his campaign, just like I did, and will do again against Lindsay.
I fully realize that there are folks here on FR who are more interested in the success of the Republican Party than they are in the success of the Conservative Agenda, and they will take umbrage with my opinions. Well, it's my time, my money, and MY VOTE...
...at least for now.
Oh, snap! You are a naughty girl.
Are you wearing pigtails and a short plaid skirt by any chance?
LOL
