"A 24-page paper on a reverse brain drain from the US back to home countries (PDF) is getting news coverage. Quoting: 'Our new paper, "America's Loss Is the World's Gain," finds that the vast majority of these returnees were relatively young. The average age was 30 for Indian returnees, and 33 for Chinese. They were highly educated, with degrees in management, technology, or science. Fifty-one percent of the Chinese held master's degrees and 41% had PhDs. Sixty-six percent of the Indians held a master's and 12.1% had PhDs. They were at very top of the educational distribution for these highly educated immigrant groups â precisely the kind of people who make the greatest contribution to the US economy and to business and job growth."Adding to the brain drain is a problem with slow US visa processing, since last November or so, that has been driving desirable students and scientists out of the country.

They must be smart since they aren’t sticking around after the stupid voters of the USA elected a community organizer to head the country.
Smart decision, but one that doesn't bode well for our future in the U.S.
Not at Vail resorts! All the instructors in of Q-1 visas are still taking the jobs that should be given to the AMERICAN instructors. The American instructors show up for work every day and are sent home!
AMERICANS MUST WORK FIRST!
Really? This slogan doesn't seem to be restricted to this particular topic, bad as it is. Plug it in anywhere, from energy to monetary policy and it has currency in this administration. When this attitude becomes popular our future will be bleak indeed.
Does that mean the dumb ones are staying behind?
Yes, it does.
we tracked down 1,203 Indian and Chinese immigrants who had worked or received education in the U.S. and had returned to their home countries.
IOW, they used the U.S. for whatever they could get, and then they returned home. Of course, I don't blame them. Why shouldn't they take advantage of the best opportunities presented to them? The blame goes to the U.S. for funding immigrants' education and/or inviting them to displace American employees in the first place.
But, now, I'm guessing, with more employees leaving the country, there will be more opportunities available for Americans... theoretically, anyway. ;-)
i read this thread with great interest....
More propaganda.
and they are all educated by US. Some American did without a college degree so they could have one. Good Riddance.
All on foreign student special loan or grant packages. Soetoro?
LOL, those poor American ski bums are losing jobs to foreign ski bums.
Why are the Americans sent home? Do they suck at teaching skiing?
yeah, you got that one too! free ride all the way.
The economic ignorance displayed in this thread is astounding.
Too many Americans get college degrees as it is. There’s a reason colleges find it desirable to admit foreign students: they often pay full price (unlike many Americans), or they’re qualified to enter college (unlike many Americans).
Not necessarily. Many of these immigrants are very entrepreneurial, and create jobs rather than "taking" jobs. If they're leaving because the business environment is deteriorating here it can only be a bad thing for the country, including for the "American workers" everyone here seems to love so much.
Your ideal world of economic benefit for all has gone too far. Yes there are good solid energetic high skilled immigrants, but there are plenty of mediocre ones too. It is your fellow citizens that you are snidely describing with your quotes.
I am experiencing it everyday in my job search and I’m a very skilled software professional laid off from one of the biggest software companies. I recently was told by someone who could barely speak English that I wasn’t qualified enough for an engagement. It is only in your economic Utopia that as an experienced 50 year old I should have to compete with people brought here and living 3 to an apartment.
You want to call me angry white guy, have at it, Mr Economist. From my perspective and that of many in the IT field, our government sided with employers who wanted to lower our salaries. They could at least reduce the H1B visas when unemployment is rocketing.
Just as they have screwed an aging work professional work force our business have sided with the elites to mass import illiterate poverty-stricken unskilled labor to destory blue collar jobs.
Or maybe the company will close the position and not let you refill it.
Nailed it!!!
