Rush, Back in the Saddle
The Washington Post ^ | March 3, 2009 | Howie Kurtz

Posted on 03/03/2009 9:49:57 AM PST by Scanian

The White House has decided to run against Rush Limbaugh.

For weeks now, El Rushbo has been riding a publicity wave, fueled by an unerring sense of showmanship and his bald-faced declaration that he wants President Obama to fail. The media, finding Limbaugh far more fascinating than Mitch McConnell or John Boehner, have staged endless debates over whether the radio talk show host is the new leader of the Republican Party.

The conventional strategy in such cases is for the administration in power to avoid talking about a mere radio critic. That would elevate him to the level of the president.

Which, it turns out, is exactly what the Obama team wants.

On Sunday's "Face the Nation," Rahm Emanuel was more than happy to build up Rush: "He is the voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party, and he has been up front about what he views, and hasn't stepped back from that, which is he hopes for failure. He said it, and I compliment him on his honesty. But that's their philosophy that's enunciated by Rush Limbaugh and I think that's the wrong philosophy for America."

"For more than a generation, the traditional media has tried to build a wall around public sentiment to protect the Democratic Party from articulate critics. Recent election cycles and the emergence of the Internet have only exacerbated the situation. In the past year, media bias has gotten out of hand.

"But it has not been able to stop that mountain we call Rush. He is much more than an entertainer or a person who can 'motivate the base' - as the media repeats like cheap talking points. He has the uncanny ability to expose the intricate web of bias to those who do not yet know that they should doubt the media's sincerity."

I remember, years ago, when Rush would laugh whenever his critics called him an “entertainer. . .”: he’d say “They’re calling me a clown!”

Interesting how Anderson Cooper (what a light weight!) erported Rush’s “failure” wish.

Anderson acted as if Rush said that he hoped the economic revival would fail. One would like a major journalist to strive for accuracy.

Of course what Rush said was that he hopes Obama’s plan to socialize our economy will fail.

I hope like hell that he fails too!

Exactly my thought when I read the excerpt. Then I realized: Accuracy is not what the WaPo, NYT, LAT, et all, want or strive for; bias is their game and keeping the sheeple dumbed down.
They will whine and complain (and be really shrill) when they think their words are taken out of context, but they will never pass up a chance to do it themselves.

Any American in their right mind would want these communists to fail.

The propaganda machine wheels will fall off the little zer0's 0rgasmatron as the economic climate becomes encased in ice.

I fully expect this commie to resign within two years.

Oh, brother.

Obama mouthed off about Rush back during the campaign, and then again recently. Team Obama is trying to push Limbaugh as some wacko talk guy who's actually the face of the Republican party.

This only works if they manage to paint him as their idea of a Republican cliche.

The problem with this tactic is that it works with Olberman and company, but they preach to the converted.

The only people this kind of thing can work with is the group of people who don't know Limbaugh except as a name and the label "conservative talk show host." And they're not going to take Rahm Emmanuel's word for it.

This tactic will only keep those who've already made up their minds where they are.

And those who haven't?

They'll check Limbaugh out for themselves.

I'd put Limbaugh's chances of drawing undecideds up against Obama's any day, especially in the current economic climate.

The Chicago gang isn't nearly as clever as they and Olberman (and a few posting here) seem to think.

Thomas Schaller from Salon:

Strip away the platitudes and cheap applause lines about freedom, self-reliance and the virtues of capitalism, and you're left with the subject that really interests Rush Limbaugh: himself. The conservative talker with the self-professed 'talent on loan from God' spoke incessantly in the first person: there were more 'I's' in his CPAC address than in an Idaho potato field.

I'm a little confused. Do Idaho potato fields have lots of 'I's???? Where?

Just a suggestion: When linking to the enimedia, use the print page - Rush, Back in the Saddle. It will load faster (especially for those with dial up) and they don't get the hits for their advertisers.

Rush is National, and International on the radio. He speaks truth to the concerns of all of us.

Do we get that from Rahm Emmanuel? Do we get that from Obama? Do we get that from ANY Democrat?

There are a few in the Republican Party whom shine, but they aren't Rush Limbaugh, and are subject to the rules of the good ol' boys club that dominates the Political scene in D.C.

So, YEAH I'd say Rush speaks to us about that which concerns Conservatives, that which concerns all Americans actually, but to say that he speaks for us is another matter. I believe we are still trying to select that person, that Political Representative that is in tune with us.

I’ll be shocked, shocked if Rush doesn’t come out of this set-up smelling like a rose. I’ll bet this “Rush is the head of the GOP” bit is something he considered long ago and is more than ready for.

Rush may not be the leader of the GOP.

Michael Steele is definitely NOT!

>>>I fully expect this commie to resign within two years.<<<

I think you vastly overestiate his sense of responsibility and loyality, and underestimate his desire for power.

I have said before, and still believe, that Obama may be the first President to be impeached by his own party.

Hopefully, one of is right...and the sooner the better. I think he has 6 to 8 months to show at least some positive trends in the economy....otherwise his negatives will rise exponentially and Congress will start to turn against him.

Informal survey here.

I asked someone I respect this question. “Would you vote for Rush for President - even with the pain pill issue and all that?”

Well, this person just scoffed and said “absolutely” and in a heartbeat.

Do ALL of us feel that way?

I know that I do. Especially after how he ripped that clown Michael Steele today. (Steele, by the way, was my second choice for RNC. My first was Blackwell. I really, really had high hopes for Steele. This is how he begins?).

The problem for the White House is that Rush really is an intelligent person, not a newsreader like Dan Rather. He LIVES to be attacked by liberals, and he doesn't just shout insults. He knows damn well he's getting new listeners, and while he is talking about this stuff, he's also talking about his problems with the Republican party. Someone just stumbling on his show thinking he just praises the Republicans will think "Wait, this isn't what they said it was".

He knows how to work with this kind of publicity. Most don't.

“...even with the pain pill issue and all that?”

And all that what? At least Rush had a legitimate reason for wanting the pain pills, and a valid prescription, even if he misused it. It wasn’t as if he partook of “a little blow when he could afford it” like a certain so-called president I can name.

The White House has decided to run against Rush Limbaugh

And by doing so just guaranteed Rush another few million more listeners. Rush must be sleeping at night with a huge grin on his face.

“”

I DO NOT want any resignation!!

I want the truth about NObama’s birth place to be out in front and shown to be what many of us think: He was born in Kenya and is not now nor was he EVER eligible to be President!!

WHY??

Because I don’t want Biden for a replacement-—

But , even more , I want NObama declared totally not eligible from the beginning.

Then EVERYTHING he has signed becomes null and void.

Every:
Executive Order
Treaty
Bill from Congress- including the ‘Porkulus Bill’
Order to the Military
EVERYTHING NObama signs or signed !!!

We know where he is going- despite how carefully he articulated it during the 2 years of campaigning.

In fact- How much are all the votes “PRESENT” part of his work in the Illinois state house an admission of his status of not even being eligible for serving there????

Steele has worked a lifetime within the circles of politics to be the RNC chairman.

He is deeply afraid that Rush could take over that post in a weenend and without Rush ever having to kiss a&& for all those years that Steele had to.
