Moscow rebuffs Obama's secret Iran-missile shield deal
Tuesday 03 March 2009 "This is not productive," said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Tuesday, talking about US President Barack Obama's secret proposition to halt the US missile shield programme in Europe in exchange for help on the Iran nuclear issue.
AFP - US President Barack Obama has written his Russian counterpart about the relationship between US plans to deploy a missile defense system in Europe and the Iranian "threat," a senior US official said Tuesday.
But the overture was rebuffed by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who said in Spain Tuesday that it was "not productive" to link talks over a US missile defense system in Europe with Iran's suspected nuclear program as proposed by Washington.
"If we are to speak about some sort of exchange, the question has not been presented in such a way, because it is not productive," Medvedev said when asked about a letter US President Barack Obama wrote to him regarding the two issues.

Obama said during the campaign that he would dismantle missle defense, so why would Putin consider something Obama intended to do anyway, a bargaining chip?

Obama has taken to putting as many US flags as can fit on the stage every time he speaks. He should be putting as many white flags instead.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Obama offers them Alaska back. It would solve that pesky Sarah Palin problem.
The Russkies know they’re dealing with a weakling. They want more besides the missile shield being flushed down the old protocol toilet.
All they’ve got to do is make enough noise, and Mr. Obama will bend.
If a real American were President, that system would be installed tomorrow.
Putting that stuff in writing and having direct contact on the issue is juvenile and weak.
