See, this torques me to no end. The editor of "People" magazine is hired to help Palin do her bio. I made this case to Karl Rove and Bush in 2003-2004: hire ME, a conservative, a historian, a Christian who KNOWS AND UNDERSTANDS conservatism, what Christians value, who won't denigrate it. I'm not being funny here.

Reagan made three great mistakes in his post Democrat life: he didn't kill the DOE and DOEd; he pulled the Marines out of Lebanon; and he allowed that boob, Edmund Morris---who never "got" Reagan---full access to his presidency to write the absolute worst official biography in history.

I wish Palin would learn from this. Get writers who understand conservatives and Christians, and you'll have a much better product.

Have you offered your services to do the “official” bio? Personally, I think she’s too young to have such a thing (I give you Obie-the-wan as exhibit A), though it would be good to have something that reflects her geo-political perspectives.

She didn't hire anyone. This is an unauthorized biography that she has already criticized.

Your premise is understandable, and BTW I use your book with my JHS classes, but there is a reason to step outside the conservative universe to find a biographer. A bio of Palin coming from you will go towards solidifying her with the base, but it will not extend her influence beyond that. A favorable bio from a person not identified with the conservative movement will go much further in influencing the people who actually decide elections. Is there a chance of a hit piece? Of course, but if the bio is favorable the result will be better for Palin and the movement.
