I grew up on the lower Eastside and we were three things:

Irish Catholic
Democrat
Pro-Union

That was before the riots in 1967.

After that everything changed. Anybody with two nickels to rub together got out, and left the working class hero stuff for the politicos.

My dad who was a Democratic organizing captain is now a Republican State Delegate.

According to the most recent polls, the Democrats are going to get their hinders handed to them in that state in 2010.
