I don’t see how you can be Honorably Discharged and still be in the IRR.

When I quit to finish my degree and get my Commission I immediately received an Honorable Discharge even though I was committed to be in the IRR for a year after.

I received discharge papers from the IRR a year later but my Honorable was from my active duty time.

This may have changed since I did that back in the very early 1980s.

Sounds like hubby, he did simultaneous service though. Took his ROTC and served in Reserves for two years. He then had two years to finish his degree or be PFC again for 6 years

Right. My recollection is that you get an HD when you go from enlisted to officer. But, in my experience (Vietnam era), you didn’t get a discharge when you moved form Active to IRR. But maybe it was different for officers.

It just seems to me that the article is misleading.
