That said, you are right, in the end, he said he would vote for it were he in Congress.
That's exactly it. He voted wrong on TARP, but he voted right on Porkulus. AND it should be noted that he was instrumental in engineering it so that Obama got not a single GOP vote for Porkulus. That's got to count for something, at least.
Look, I think what we're seeing on here on this thread is a whole lot of FReepers who haven't got the single, slightest clue about politics as it is actually played on the ground. Sorry, but no, you can't just go on national TV as an elected official and as a high-ranking member of the Party apparatus in Congress and just come busting out with how you hope Obama fails miserably, no matter how much you may privately want him to.
Look, FReepers need to realise that not everybody out there thinks like we do. We FReepers are the motivated right wing of the conservative movement. We are the ideologues of the conservative movement. Problem is, the red meat that would get us going would drive away non-ideologues, even if those non-ideologues are politically and temperamentally conservative. Sure, if Cantor had answered Stefanie's question with, "H*** yeah, we hope Obama bombs like Hiroshima!!!!", most everybody on this thread would be praising him as a wonderful leader for the GOP and slapping each other on the backs. And the average American, even conservatives, would be like, "What, is this guy a whackjob?"
Folks, think about things in perspective.
You read WAY too much into my very short comment. I've never been a Republican, but I normally vote for the Republican Party. I don't think of it as the only vehicle by which to advance Conservatism. I don't believe any political party can advance Conservatism as well as the People.
check out my tagline.
Yea, right Cantor. I want Obama to go very well. I want lots more abortions, I want fag marriage, I want Izzlumic murderers coming here, I want more illegals, I want trillions more for sit on their @$$e$. Yup, that is what I want. AS LONG AS THESE TYPES ARE RUNNING THE PARTY, we will lose. Rush hit this hard in his speech. He spoke about these factions wanting to be like the liberals and take over the party. Right, just what we need. This guy needs to be run off like the RINOs.
Easy as that. These guys are pros at saying stuff like that. He didnt do it. He doesnt believe in it. He aint on the team hes a RINO.
I'd be sincerely interested in seeing if you'd have said that, if you had been in that interview.
Mike Pence was more adept at handling this kind of attack by the media:
MSNBC’s O’Donnell Begs Congressman to Denounce Rush Limbaugh

I do agree with you that the GOP is the only vehicle we have. I just want plain speakers speaking the truth. We will be attacked by the media no matter what—better to speak the truth and not hem and haw. And for goodness sake we need to stop praising the other side. That drove me nuts in Jindal’s speech the other night that he takes the first few minutes to gush over Obama. If you can’t say something mean, don’t say anything at all—only kidding. The praise of these people that are literally destroying our country is infuriating to me though. That would be my only complaint with Mike Pence’s appearance above—he says he greatly respects Nancy Pelosi. He doesn’t have to say she’s a bitch. Just don’t say anything at all.
It is the usual third party anti GOP loons who always look for a chance to divide Conservative Republicans on FR
They are the Democrat’s best friend
A busy Congressional Whip may want to distance himself from contetious rhetoric but he needs to do it sensibly.
It wouldn’t be hard to say, “Well Mr. Snuffleupagous, I am unable to keep up with the exact context of every comment by dozens of commentators expressing national disgust with Democratic excess in a time of national economic troubles but what does your network think is the cause of such public opposition?”
Playing their game on their propogandist hardwood can always be destroyed by truth.
“I don’t think anyone wants anything to fail right now George.”
I, Eric Cantor, and the other republicans in Congress will support Obama’s socialist initiatives ever step of the way. One hundred percent !!!
I didn't say you were a Republican. I asked how not voting for conservative Republicans, when that will allow leftist Democrats to win, "advances conservatism".
I'll go ahead and answer the question for you - it doesn't. Indeed, it does the opposite.
As for the people advancing conservatism - good luck with that. With no organisation, "the people" won't do diddly except whine and moan about how leftist Democrats always seem to get elected.
Not for long.....
I pity the fool! Get a conservative to challenge the canter in the next cycle.
Sorry, but the GOP ceased to be a "credible vehicle" for anything conservative years ago. You may not have noticed, but many have, and that is why the party is shriveling up and dying. Voting Republican is as big a waste as voting for the Democrats and expecting anything conservative to happen. Granted, there is no alternative, but that doesn't make voting Republican anything more than a useless effort.
I would like to clarify—I believe the GOP is the only option we have right now as far as political parties—not the only option we have as far as advancing the conservative message. Talk radio is one of the more prominent options, but we have very few. American culture is steeped in liberalism/leftism.
That statement is hardly a controversial one. PLease. It’s as mild as a damp dishrag.
“Cantor just lost me; and to think that I formerly believed that he has the Right Stuff.”
Ditto here.
Well if cantor had any brains at all he would have seen the trap and maybe showed some balls and just say he agrees with everything RUSH says. But since he is just another go along pubbie that was not going to happen. The leadership will doom this party and I for one cant wait. They seem to always bring a knife to a gunfight.Real hard to win that way.
And besides, if what you are implying is that he couldn’t even say such a limpwristed reply because he doesn’t have the balls to satnd up for someone saying the plain uncouched truth, then perhaps the dainty congressman shouldn’t be going on the morning talk shows with the big boys, and perhaps if he isn’t going to fight for core principles or at least verbally defend them, maybe we need a stronger person in that chair.
