NEW MEXICO is in a financial hole. The country is in economic turmoil. Yet, some state representatives have introduced environmental legislation that will drive up the cost of energy for citizens and tempt job-creating businesses to relocate to other states.
A story in the Journal described new legislation introduced in the state House that would set up state controls on greenhouse gas emissions. Not mentioned in the article was ... the fact that greenhouse gas emissions have never been proven to change the temperature of the atmosphere.
Aggressive cap and trade bills increase energy costs and do much more economic harm than any environmental good. Legislation like this in New Mexico could lead to further economic slowdown and lost jobs, with the potential victims being small businesses and the poor and middle class.
HB 635 (was) introduced by Albuquerque Rep. Benjamin Rodefer, who has spent the first 30 days of his first term introducing bills that would create more government and increase the tax burden on businesses and citizens.
This legislation is driven by unsubstantiated theory and not sound science. It reflects leftist environmental ideology that tends to put radical environmental concerns above any concern for the livelihood of the average citizen. ...
The leftist environmentalists who push this kind of legislation seem to have no concern for the poor and middle class of this state, the very people they say they represent.

Hmmm...I don't see the "R" next to his name...
You have to give these statists credit for being exceptionally well organized.
I used to think they were simply emboldened. Now I think it is a well-orchestrated plan.
This is the problem. People like me think that government is a nuisance. These people revere government as a religion.
I'm beginning to think that there is no solution other than to take them aside one at a time and "make their mind right".
PING! to the NM list.
They are going to have to deal with some ugly repercussions.
So many of them because the Rats won the election and have a clear track to spread their socialist programs. They always will take advantage of an opening like this.
If you ever drove across eastern New Mexico (Ft. Sumner) and Texas (Abilene) you’d see that those hundreds of damn windmills don’t do much for “da enviomen” either. They define eyesore.
Just an FYI that I picked up while watching Special Report on Fox News tonight:
The are saying that it will do no economic harm because the middle-class tax cut will off set the cost. In other words, they give you back some of your money so you can in turn give it to the utility to pay for the compliance cost of new environmental regulation.
Oops! There goes my planned splurge at Starbucks with my extra $13 /week.
Is New Mexico trying to get the tax money that Obama wants before Obama can get it? How will Obma’s cap and trade work with States that claim the money before he does?
Well I imagine that consumers in each state will be responsible for the cost of whatever additional regulaitons their state adds if it’s over and above what the Federal Government requires.
So, I suppose it is possible that some will end up paying more than they otherwise would if there are two governemnts imposing two different sets of regulation on the same utilities, unless each of them also offer something that offsets it.
My original point is that the supposed middle-class tax cut really isn’t a tax cut because they already have it spent for us.

One of the states is going to figure out that being anti-green could bring them big dividends.
No. What they define is making a harsh land more habitable and productive.
The tax cut is a scam. It’s bait to make the stupid believe Obama actually cares. There is no tax cut, there never was one . A few bucks less taken out of the checks of people while loading up oncap and trade, Any time a business is taxed that burden falls on the consumer. A tax on ricjh business or rich people will trickle down the same as the tax cuts Reagan and Bush made. The ignorant cannot understand that. Obama knows it.
