This February, however, Romney is well-positioned to emerge as the leader of the party and the Republican front-runner in 2012. First, money is no obstacle. Romney can self-finance, but he is also a fundraising machine. He eagerly campaigned for McCain, raising record amounts for his White House run, a gesture for which he earned political capital within the Republican Party and should expect repayment at some point. He is also currently donating money through his political action committee to House Republicans who opposed the stimulus package, and he is campaigning for Republicans around the country, including James Tedisco, who is running for the former congressional seat of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), and Virginia Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, who is running for reelection.
Although the 2012 presidential campaign will not begin in earnest for another two years, Romney has several other factors working in his favor. He currently holds no elected office, so in a time when Republicans are rediscovering their voice, Romney does not have to worry about the compromises and horse trading that accompany public office. Instead, he can speak with the voice of a true conservative and hold accountable members of the Republican Party who defect.

Jim DeMint for President.
You’re deluded. He’s not a conservative that strays on a few positions. He’s a flaming liberal who has a few conservative tendencies. He is practically a socialist when it comes to his belief in big-government solutions. Totally unacceptable. Totally! Let’s wake up and back a conservative...any conservative. I hope God does grant some wisdom to those who think this turd is a conservative.
Plus he lives his life in a way that demonstrates conservative principles.
Yes, true. But Romney also issued an executive order forcing all justices of the peace to perform gay marriages.
He did not have to do that.
I looked into these matters very closely at the time, and his defenders were forced to admit that it was, at best, a crucial mistake.
What Romney said and what he did were two different things, unfortunately.
Romney is more than acceptable, and he understand economics like nobody else that we could run.
Romney could very easily point out that it was Democrats who ran most of these financial firms into the ground, with help from the stupid Democrats in Washington.
I’m not a Romney supporter and wasn’t last time around. But in his defense he is doing the ground work now to be positioned for the race after the 2010 elections. He’s building up capital amongst the party which is more than some of the newly rising stars are doing. You can’t ignore the major party events or conservative get togethers and stay isolated in your state and expect to be in position to be a serious contender in 2010.
We had some good candidates in 08 but they didn’t have national recognition which takes time sometimes years to establish.
How do you feel about this?
:)
But the fundraising power and economic conservative appeal of Mitt Romney is not something we should dismiss. Though many will, even if Mitt sprouted a halo and angel wings. For them, a Marxist in the white house is a small price to pay to keep a Mormon out of the white house.
"Any criticism of me, posting my record, or what I actually did
will be called "Hateful" and "anti-Mormon" - and will not be tolerated."
“I appreciate that Romney supported Michelle Bachmann when the party would not and I love that he has sent money from his PAC to people who have been against porkulus, but I’m not interested in him as a nominee. Especially not if Politico is pushing the idea.”
That is pretty contorted logic.
Your own mind tells you he has done admirable things, but someone you don’t respect or agree with sways your thinking?
Romney is missing a key point to winning.
He doesn’t come across well.
He tries too hard to be like us. He isn’t, and he doesn’t need to be, so he shouldn’t even try.
Oh brother, not this s%^$ again.
Mitt is John McCain with good hair. Mitt is another in a long line of RINO wannabe POTUS candidates.
Not another RINO, not now, not ever.
Half a billion dollar bailout for his Utah hack friends to 'save' the Utah Olympics. Shoved Hilliary/Ted Kennedy socialist take over of private health care.
So, accepting what you said, and I do, Mitt is even worse in that he KNEW he was being a lefty socialist and that in both practical experience and theory, what he was doing was wrong.
Nice.
Romney "Disses" Amateur Radio In Televised Town Meeting (and why he won't get my vote)
t
Maybe Romney could “self-finance” a campaign now, but when BO is done picking his pockets, he won’t be able to “self-finance” two aspirin.
Want to bet? On Free Republic Romney will be deconstructed whenever his name is mentioned. All liberals get that treatment. Just ask the Giuliani supporters. If you can find one. LOL
Reagan wasn’t mentioned in the article.
So why drag him into a thread about a liberal named Romney?
Makes no sense whatsoever.
That's funny. Mitt going after 'defectors'.
The Rudy supporters were the worst.
Who doesn’t think a lot of them ended up voting for Barry?
BIG BUMP!...let have no more McCain repeats...
repeat, as often as necessary.
