This February, however, Romney is well-positioned to emerge as the leader of the party and the Republican front-runner in 2012. First, money is no obstacle. Romney can self-finance, but he is also a fundraising machine. He eagerly campaigned for McCain, raising record amounts for his White House run, a gesture for which he earned political capital within the Republican Party and should expect repayment at some point. He is also currently donating money through his political action committee to House Republicans who opposed the stimulus package, and he is campaigning for Republicans around the country, including James Tedisco, who is running for the former congressional seat of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), and Virginia Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, who is running for reelection.
Although the 2012 presidential campaign will not begin in earnest for another two years, Romney has several other factors working in his favor. He currently holds no elected office, so in a time when Republicans are rediscovering their voice, Romney does not have to worry about the compromises and horse trading that accompany public office. Instead, he can speak with the voice of a true conservative and hold accountable members of the Republican Party who defect.

Yup! No more RINO’s! Enough already!
It’s not quite Romney’s time. He is still awaiting the results of focus group testing to see what his life-long convictions will be this year.
His year to shine my boots, maybe.
Willard is a rat.
IT should join his real party the democrats!
I think you need to get your facts straight:
“Governor Romney, suspected of harboring future national hopes of his own, reacted to the SJC advisory opinion by reiterating his call for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. And by stressing the voters deserved a say in an issue of this importance.”
No way. No way in Hades.
I hope yhe only shine he does is someone elses shoes at a cigar stand!
Given the state of this country I am doubting that a “real conservative” could possibly ever win an election again.
By the time BO is done there will be a whole new batch of government dependents who will continue to vote for their enablers.
Personally I’d love to have Romney as President right now. At least we’d have someone at the helm who had a clue about what he was doing with the economy. But then, I’d rather have Joe the Plumber as President right now than what we’ve got.
ROFLOL!!
Don’t want to see another “been around the block a few times guy” myself.
Please no. No more Hucksters, McCrazies, or Myths. We’ve got to be able to do better than that.
Palin has too many detractors within the party.
Here’s a news flash for the a$%holes in the MSM. Sarah Palin is a ROCK STAR. She shows up, the place is SRO and going nuts. She wants to run, she gets the nomination. End of story.
Third Party talk is a sure sign of someone who does not really want to win, but only wants to complain.
I would love to see a Palin/Romney ticket or a Romney/Palin ticket.
Romney would have been far, far better than McCain. It was many of you negative types, on the right, who gave us McCain through your refusal to get behind Romney, when we needed you!
If you do not cater to your base you lose, I guess country-club republicans really want democrats in power for a long, long time.
“reiterating his call “
He should have written one and pushed it then.
“Calling” is words.
Politico went out of its' way to peddle Obama as a centrist, even when everyone knew it was BS. And let's not forget where most of these assho!es came from.
I’m with ya, Kansas. And Mitt would have been excellent in trying to decipher this debacle we’re in now. Let’s hope the country is sick of 0bambi and votes him out in 2012.
I am smitten with Sanford.
Mitt can find another job.
We will NEVER be in a position where every single member of our Party agrees with us on everything. NEVER!
However, we CAN have a party where the majority is prolife, pro Second Amendment and anti tax.
There are parts of the country where it would be hard for a person that I would ever want as President to win as Governor or in any other race.
We are in a war for the survival of our American way of life. As Reagan said, someone who agrees with you 80% of the time is your friend, not your enemy.
Lets get rid if the Communists and Socialists and Anti-American nuts out there, all most all of whom are in the Democrat Party!
Also, remember, whoever wins in the Primary MUST have some broad voter appeal, in the general election.
— Republican firing squads always form a circle, EVEN WHEN THEIR ARE PLENTY OF DEMS TO SHOOT AT!
