This February, however, Romney is well-positioned to emerge as the leader of the party and the Republican front-runner in 2012. First, money is no obstacle. Romney can self-finance, but he is also a fundraising machine. He eagerly campaigned for McCain, raising record amounts for his White House run, a gesture for which he earned political capital within the Republican Party and should expect repayment at some point. He is also currently donating money through his political action committee to House Republicans who opposed the stimulus package, and he is campaigning for Republicans around the country, including James Tedisco, who is running for the former congressional seat of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), and Virginia Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, who is running for reelection.
Although the 2012 presidential campaign will not begin in earnest for another two years, Romney has several other factors working in his favor. He currently holds no elected office, so in a time when Republicans are rediscovering their voice, Romney does not have to worry about the compromises and horse trading that accompany public office. Instead, he can speak with the voice of a true conservative and hold accountable members of the Republican Party who defect.

You arn’t talking to the same conservatives I am.
Gov. Palin Got out the crowds and they were jazzed.
It is the others mentioned who have to prove themselves
and most need years.
That pic is missing Looter Guy and Godzilla (y’know, what Slick Willard saved the Olympics from). ;-)
Rocky Anderson, the left-wing ACLUer former SLC Mayor LOOOOOVED Slick Willard and endorsed him for office. Quite telling.
Mitt was for wasteful Federal bailouts( for his Utah friends ) before he was against wasteful Federal bailouts.
I know it is confusing, but dealing with Mitts record is like nailing jello to a tree.
behzinlea
Since Dec 11, 2008
If you think Gov. Palin does not have the intellectual capacity, you must think that hick with a few yrs of formal education, Lincoln was an idiot
Slick Willard’s positions are like Texas weather. Just wait 5 minutes and it’ll change.
A new kid on the block, LOL!!
Mmmmmmmmmm... Just breathe in that fresh air... I just love the smell of ozone in the morning... Smells like Slick Willardbot poontang.
Willard’s troops are starting early...hardheaded sorelosers that they are.
This cannot be overstated!!! I think we're in a war to save the sovereignty of our country - not just our way of life.
We can bicker about RINOs, but never again can we elect a "compassionate conservative" (fiscal liberal) or globalist (cozy with the commies - I looked into his eyes and saw a man I could trust).
Bush #2 laid one hell of a solid foundation for Obamunism to usher in Bush #1's "new world order".
I can only say what I see. I see waning enthusiasm for Palin. She needs to refine and hone her message, and the only way to do that is to take it on the road and try it out over, and over, and over again, discarding what doesn’t work, fixing what works partially, and buffing to a high sheen what does work. It’s a tedious but essential process. Tedious, hard message honing is what made Reagan the juggernaut he became. He only made it look effortless after the fact.
Unfortunately, Palin will be hard pressed to put the time in because she is a full time governor. I would love to see her pull it off. But it’s a steep hill to climb.
I have no problem with his religion which deep down a lot of fellow freepers don't like.
Raise money for a gazillionaire ?
And after the amount obamba raised and spent, how can you ask this question???
I don’t know where you live but I am in a large city and speak to many.
Gov. Palin is doing just fine.
You know I have never been one to call Romney faultless so don’t go lumping me in with whatever hypothetical crowd you’re thinking of. I don’t care about the olympics - it’s the course of action he took to save them. He demonstrated aggressive leadership and fiscal conservatism and savvy.
So what if I was for McCain? He was leading in the polls until the economy crashed and then it was hopeless and he then began running a very weak and reactionary campaign. I wish in the end Rudy or Romney were the nominee. No they weren’t perfect conservatives.
And you were for Fred, whom I like, but who ran one of the the weakest campaigns ever and split the vote allowing my guy to win the nomination. I’m gonna call you out on that. ;-)
Mitt could not get out the crowds or the votes.
BARF is right from his own personal slime machine that he used against all the other candidates. I wouldn’t trust Politico if they told me the sky was blue!
The religious bigots in the GOP will never allow a Mormon nominee. And until the elitists, neocons, and warmongers are removed from positions of power, the GOP is doomed anyway. Palin should run as a Conservative, not as a Republican.
“Do we need remind FReepers you thought Juan McCain was the savior for 2008 ? Your judgment aint exactly on sound ground”
Did McCain win the nomination after against all odds he looked dead in ‘07? He was leading in the polls coming out of the convention, the market crashed and that was the end of it. That’s not called poor judgment - it’s called not having a crystal ball.
McCain won the nomination and would’ve had at least a 50% chance at POTUS had the economy remained sound. All in all, I’m satisfied I was right. Very few people believed me.
To be fair if I had to do it again I would’ve gone with either Mitt (economy) or Rudy (fighter). Tough call - probably Mitt though. That’s not a slur on John McCain or my judgment either. Things change, events happen, the future unfolds unseeingly into the present. Who knew?
