Using words such as "imposter" and "usurper," an active-duty Army officer in Iraq has joined a California lawyer's lawsuit intended to force President Barack Obama to prove he is a legal U.S. citizen, and therefore able to legally serve as the commander in chief.

"Until Mr. Obama releases a 'vault copy' of his original birth certificate for public review, I will consider him neither my Commander in Chief nor my President, but rather, a usurper to the Office -- an impostor," 1st Lt. Scott R. Easterling states in his letter published at Defendourfreedoms.com.

An Army spokesman told Military.com today that officials are aware of Easterling's letter.

Poll: Should a Soldier serve if he doesn’t think the president is legitimate?

"We are taking a look at that ourselves right now," Lt. Col. Christopher Garver said. "We are always trying to balance our ... military requirements under the Uniform Code of Military Justice versus critical freedoms that all Americans enjoy."

California dentist turned attorney Orly Taitz, who has brought the lawsuit, told Military.com Tuesday that it is her "understanding that there will not be a serious consequence to his career [for his statements], but I don't know for sure."

"I told him 'you're doing something very brave for this country, and that you can call me any time, 24/7 [for advice],' " she said. "If you're investigated by [the judge advocate general] and if there are any hearings ... and if an officer is defending you, I will provide documents totally proving it's illegitimate for [Obama] to be president."

That was quick!

I just received the same information as an e-mail yesterday, and forwarded it to my retired Navy buddies.

Your name suggests you’re a vet, so you should know that the UCMJ has restrictions on political activity, especially where speaking ill of the Commander in Chief is concerned. I don’t know whether this LT crossed the line or not, but he is most assuredly on thin ice. We don’t need political soldiers, that sort of thing happens in Banana Republics, it should not happen here. I work with active duty soldiers every day, they have to be very guarded in their comments. Some of them clearly don’t like Obama, but there were also those who didn’t like President Bush and (especially) Don Rumsfeld, but kept it to themselves like the professionals they are.

It is always possible that he is a bandwagon jumper; someone looking for attention. In my mind, much id said by whether he is a “90 Day Wonder,” or whether he is an Academy graduate.

That is NOT to say that those who go through officer training school after graduating from a non-military affiliated college are less legitimate in their commission. But it does point to the fact that the non-military affiliated schools produce more “protest” types who are more likely to jump on bandwagons for notoriety.

I will give this man the benefit of the doubt, however.

Moreover, his career as a patriot could very well be just as important to him as his career in the military, and so on this basis, he may be willing to take greater risks with his career.

I am in full agreement that Mr. Obama must give greater proof of his natural-born citizenship status, and I back these law suits that carry this purpose.

I question the legitimacy of Mr. Obama on much more than that. I believe he has already failed in his oath to uphold and defend the Constitution for the united States, as have many in Congress.

Thus I pray that the scrutiny over his status will continue in the courts as well as in public opinion.

We're on the precipice of true usurpation of our Constitution. I understand how important it is for our military to obey the CIC, but shouldn't SOMEONE force him to prove he's legitimate? Rumors are now abounding that the reason he's doing what he's done over the last few weeks is that those who know about his birth certificate are blackmailing him. Now, I know this sounds incredulous, but as someone else stated—a simple document provided to put the issue to rest is not asking for much. What reason does he have for NOT providing it? THAT’s the question that makes everyone question...

It isn’t just officers. Some of us NCO’s feel the same way.

Yes the LT is on very very thin ice as far as the UCMJ.

By speaking out, becoming a "political soldier" this man's career is over. He could even wind up in a Federal Pen. If that be his course of action, he and he alone is accountable.

Banana Republic??, this Constitutional Republic is on it's way in that direction. Sliding downhill on that sled known as socialism.

The Constitution of the United States spells out qualifications for the office of president.

The three branches of our federal government have taken no action.

The political parties, the media, talk radio, the various states, the electoral college have taken no action.

Who are the cowards, Who are the patriots, Who has the standing ?

Why would a CIC spend almost 1 million dollars in attorney fees to hide information about himself?

I would never want our military to sully their hands with politics.

What part of "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic" don't you understand?

“This officer needs to be very careful. His career could be in jeopardy.”

I think he is a 42 year old Lt., so I don’t think his career is formost in his mind.

I completely agree with your statement and it disgusts me to no end.

Rush, some time ago, brought it up ever so briefly, with regards to the first Supreme Court Conference. He said that he was reluctant to mention it because it would then give the allegations legitimacy.

They are either scared of what might happen if the general public learns of the massive fraud perpetrated on them, or they think we’re all crazy conspiracy theorists.

Since when is the military not political? Will it not be political when Obama orders the armed forces to occupy Israel? Was it not political when Obama sent twenty millions to Hamas, which has participated in attacks on our military? Is it not politcal when Obama appoints as head of the National Intelligence Council a doctrinaire pro-Saudi founder of the Saudi funded Middle East Policy Council, who is a paid representative of the Bin Laden family?

Do you think Obama ever set foot on a military base before becoming President? The closest he has every come to the military is the Weathermen, and possibly, the Taliban or Al Qaeda. The closest he has come to understanding the dynamics of a team was second string on the basketball team at the most exclusive prep school in Hawaii. Were I still in the Army, I would get out as quickly as possible to be close to my familiy in anticipation of the dangers Obama is abetting. These officers are doing what they swore to do, defend and protect the Constitution. Our legislative and judical branches have been breached, and the constitution is being ignored. Many in the military know this, and this Lieutenant is trying one more time to see if our laws have any meaning - whether there is some legal authority as yet uncompromised who may require discovery. Unfortunately, we know Obama will appeal until it gets to the final court of appeal, which may fail us again. But at least the truth will have been exposed. I think we all fear what alternatives remain. So to me, this officer is a hero

All 0 has to do is produce his original birth certificate. Everybody will then see that he was indeed born in Hawaii, not Kenya. But he won’t, not because he’s actually a Kenyan, but because satisfying the concerns of the “little people” is “beneath him.”

When the leadership is basically law-abiding, this officer’s actions would be ludicrious. However, when nearly all of the “leaders” of the United States of America, up to and including the POTUS, illegally and openly undermine our very Republic......well, this type of rebellion is the only avenue left, short of armed-uprising.

We can’t turn to public officials (corrupt, mostly liberals); judges (ditto); law-makers (double-ditto), etc.

This is more the reason I believe the pseudo-POTUS wants a Black Panther-like civilian “army”, such as he was talking about early-on. He knows the military will side with “we the people” if/when he gets too froggy.

I feel sorry for that officer, and he darn sure is sticking his neck out on the line for his beliefs. He also has “a set” which is more than the nancy-boys inside the beltway have.

Well I think this officer has cajones of steel. I applaud him. He’s just upholding the constitution which states that the president shall be a natural born citizen of the USA. I have to prove I’m a citizen to get a crap temp job, but Obama gets a pass? In case you didn’t notice, Obama isn’t politics as usual.

I could not find any pictures of Obama visiting the troops on the Army website.

They do however have a great pic of Robert E. Lee
