The interesting aspect is that AG Holder clearly kept the Heller decision in mind.
As in, 0bama’s not attempting to repeal Heller. This is no accident. 0bama knows how to read the tea leaves. What it means is that 0bama is convinced that the SCOTUS will not overturn or restrict/limit the Heller ruling.
That part is the bright side of the atomic flash.
Anyway, Heller clearly makes complete bans illegal. Well, the old saying is “If you are going to kill the King, kill the King.” Meaning, don’t do something half-way that merely angers a powerful opponent. That’s us. We’re his opponent.
And he’s crying out that he doesn’t have the legislative tools to do to us what he wishes. He obviously needs new legislation...which he knows will be limited by Heller.
The other interesting aspect is that Holder recognizes that a sunset provision can reverse whatever it is that he is setting out to do.
Frankly, the Left is setting itself up to overreach here...as they can’t get a Heller-approved total ban...and the lack of a sunset clause will make any such attempt even less popular.
Dems lost badly in the 1994 elections after ramming through the AWB, after all. Yeah, they can pass a new one (if they haven’t learned their lesson).
