Why We Love Bobby Jindal

RUSH: Now, a couple words here about Bobby Jindal. There's a great disconnect, ladies and gentlemen, between the Beltway pundits in the Drive-By Media -- and I, sadly, have to include the Fox News All Stars in this. We live in a world obviously where style counts for more than anything else, and that's not good. Obama's a great stylist, a great orator, who gave great speech last night. But if you listen to it, it was meaningless. It had all kinds of lies.

Those of us who studied Obama know exactly what he's going to do. He's going to grow the government as big as he can. He's going to expand the government sector. He's going to do it at the expense of the high end of the private sector. He's going to do this. He's got the votes, by the way. If his speech created a bump in his approval numbers, he's got the votes to do anything he wants. He can do cap-and-trade, and he can do health care reform in 30 days. He can do socialized medicine. He can do whatever he wants as soon as he wants depending on the bump and the bounce he gets out of this speech, and I fully expect that the Drive-Bys will run polls showing that his approval numbers are way, way up. But the market is way, way down.

You are right, he did call it irresponsible - And he was correct. He just did not make sure it was prominent enough IMO.

I'll say it again. I think it was a lost opportunity or, at best, not as effective as I would have hoped it to be.

As for my ‘Heaping praise’ comment - I thought it was mostly unnecessary and got in the way of the attention span time of the viewer. Sort of like the introductions Pols give from the Podium where they thank everyone and their brother before getting into the substance. I would have cut that part way back and made the emphasis on the Debt, the misapplication of scarce funds and the over reliance of failed Gov’t policies to resolve the problems the focus, repeating it in several ways to make the points stick.

He did mention these things but, as but one viewer, I did not come away from his speech with those things etched in my mind. Of course, the poor audio quality did not help.

I didn’t watch his response last night but I do believe that the Republicans want Jindal instead of Palin in 2012.

Rush is right AND the critics are right. We need people with the right ideas in their heads AND who can inspire the public to agree with them. You have to have both. Reagan had both, which is why he was a history changing powerhouse and not just another guy with the right ideas. Reagan wouldn’t be Ronaldus Magnus in Rush’s eyes if he didn’t have both. Rush is right to criticize the nitpicking of Jindal, but he is mistaken if he fails to acknowledge that ideas are nothing if they don’t connect.

Agree about not thinking Obama is that great a speaker. I like Jindal’s delivery a lot better. He is believable and appears to be a morale man. I think beside someone like Obama he looks very very good.

I listened to Bobby Jindal’s speech last night and what he said was good but his delivery sounded like algore. I have read his comments but it is the first time I ever heard him speak, that I can recall, and I was disappointed.

My experience this morning underscores your point. I was at work in one of the most solid Democrat cities in America.

Three men hit the water cooler -- One probably a McCain voter, the other two voted Obama. One asks, "Well, did you watch Lord Obama last night?"

Various mutterings to the effect of, "didn't do it for me."

One of the Dems pipes in, "This Jindal guy, I watched him. He pronounces his s's funny. He could work on that, but he seems like a brilliant guy."

I hadn't seen or read Jindal's speech yet, but judging by that man-on-the-street reaction, Bobby did just fine.

Do you think, if Obama were a white man he would be president right now?

Of course not. It's not just "style."

The Democrat criticism is knee-jerk but the Republican criticism is lame and when it's allegedly from 'conservatives', suspect.

I liked these paragraphs in Rush's monologue:

So, where are we? We as conservatives are in the wilderness, and many of you are hopeless. So we have a guy, Bobby Jindal, 37 years old, first time on the national stage, shows up last night to make a response to The Messiah. All he did was articulate what we believe. All he did was articulate opposition to what Obama is doing, with the obligatory when he's right, we'll work with him, just like we worked with Clinton on NAFTA, just like we worked with Clinton on welfare reform after we brought him in. These things happen. It doesn't mean that we lose our distrust. All Bobby Jindal did was tell us what conservatism is; he used his own life story to do it; he talked about the American people making the country work. He had it all. Now, he may not have done it in the same stylistic way as Obama. I can understand the Democrats trashing the man, just as they trashed Sarah Palin. They are mean-spirited, heartless, horrible winners. But the people on our side are really making a mistake if they go after Bobby Jindal on the basis of style.

Because if you think people on our side, I'm talking to you, those of you who think Jindal was horrible, in fact, I don't want to hear from you ever again if you think that what Bobby Jindal said was bad or what he said was wrong or not said well, because, folks, style is not going to take our country back. Solid conservatism articulated in a way that's inspiring and understanding is what's going to take the country back. Bobby Jindal's 37 years old. I've spoken to him numerous times. He's brilliant. He's the real deal. I'm not coming here to defend him, he doesn't need that. We're going to have to figure out what we want. Do we want to have somebody in our party who can sound as smart as Obama regardless what he says and convince people to vote for us, or do we believe in a set of principles that defined this country's founding and will return it to greatness again? And if we do, we cannot shun politicians who share those beliefs simply 'cause we don't like the way they say it.

I think Jindal’s preformance was weak but remember that Gov. Bill Clinton’s key note address at the 1988 Dem convention was so horrible that he was given up for dead thereafter. Jindal is strong on issues and will grow into his skin.

I read that Bobby Jindal is also a Rhodes Scholar, which Freepers need to know is part of NWO, and about reuniting the US with UK...it needs to be researched.

“You are right, he did call it irresponsible - And he was correct. He just did not make sure it was prominent enough IMO.”

IMO you are picking nits. We need to focus more on substance not style. Stuff like:

# The Dow’s fall on Obama’s Inauguration Day was the worst Inauguration Day decline in history.
# The Dow fell 384 points on Feb. 10, the day Treasury Secretary Geithner unveiled his financial stability plan.
# The Dow fell 298 points on Feb. 17, the day Obama signed the Stimulus Bill.
# The Dow fell to an 11-year low on Monday, following weekend reports about the government’s potential new plan to bail out Citigroup.
# The Dow fell nearly 200 points intraday Wednesday following Obama’s generally well received speech Tuesday evening. (The index did recover some lost ground, even briefly trading positive in the afternoon, before closing down 80 points as Treasury announced yet more bailout options for banks.)

“I listened to Bobby Jindal’s speech last night and what he said was good but his delivery sounded like algore. “

If that’s a ‘panning’ comment, recall that Al Gore was Vice President for 8 years and a butterfly ballot away from the presidency. You are praising in a way. He’s on the level with Al gore. Not good, but Kerry was worse, and GWB did worse sometimes too. With work, he can get to the Clinton/Obama level. With work, time and gravitas, he can become a Reagan-level communicator.

It was simply an observation. I like Bobby Jindal, from everything I have heard about him. I like what he said but I was disappointed in his delivery. He sounded like he had been coached by algore.
