Networking Sites Limit Optimized Organizing

Posted on 02/25/2009 1:26:39 PM PST by Arrowhead

This vanity topic is nothing more than an encouragement for chief organizers of the coming Tea Party Protest to reconsider their use of networking sites like Facebook and Myspace for their city wide organizing efforts.

As I understand they are a great tool for networking, if you are a chief organizer for your city, only using Facebook to bring people together, you will find that your efforts will be limited. Many people who want to correspond with others joining the protest will not be inclined to be required to sign up for sites like Facebook to interact.

The chief organizer should use free web based blogs to draw in as many as possible. Networking sites make great tools for passing the word and coordinating with people you know. But, they should not be used as a central hub for organizing.

Please understand that I am just trying to help because I really want to see this Tea Party (and any other Freeper cause)bring in as many people as possible. The success of these type of causes and protests require bodies more than money. And I do not want to see an tool used to organize that may discourage involvement by some sign up requirement.

To the DC Chapter: Freepers should dump the equivalent amount of USED tea bags of what was dumped in the Boston Harbor (90,000 lbs.) Freepers with white vans get magnetic stickers on their van saying "The Boston Harbor," drive up to the Capital steps and drop off the used tea bags.

If the park police make their inquiries, just tell them they came to return the tea that was dumped in the harbor.

I brought this up in a couple of emails on here. There needs to be a central location for organizing. JMO.

I’ve heard Twitter is very good for this kind of thing.

This is the right idea Loungitude. Perhaps Twitter can create a blog centered around the Tea Party.

I agree Teddybear...I believe the biggest reason why our concerns fall on deaf ears is because we do not centralize our machine.

Years ago, I use to think that fractionalizing our activities was prudent. But, experience has proven otherwise. It has little effect upon well-oiled machines like leftist movements.

Since conservatives are the King of Radio, we couple centralized mobility with radio and we could increase the effectiveness of our movement many fold.

Also, meeting on weekdays limits turnout.

ROTB...agreed! And I believe Sunday should be avoided as well. Over the years, Saturdays has always gotten the best turn out for political meetings in my experience.

I know what you mean Xcamel. IMHO, it is a shame to take things from within the home, things that are sacred, and make them common on the internet. Is there anything sacred anymore?

I don't believe the sign up requirement is a negative. We need to weed out disruption from the left. Invitation based registration is the only real option otherwise we will deals with trolls. It only takes one or two to disrupt the effort and waste valuable time. Think about it. What if a troll decided to email everyone on a Tea Party action a change of time and location shortly before an event?

I, along with a group of like minded designers and developers are working on an application to allow us to do this type of organizing. If you are interested in helping out send me a private reply. One Disclaimer: We deal in real names on this project and you will be vetted. If you prefer keeping your identity hidden behind a username this probably isn't the project for you.
