Jindal sucked apparently. I listened to the content, so I didn't notice how flat he apparently sounded. I thought the content was pretty good for a generic response to a really generic Presidential speech...no specifics.
President Obama gave little in substance but spoke in broad generalities adorned with the usual bromides.
Kind of hard to respond to that sort of non-substance. Where Jindal did his best was in laying out the differences in the general philosophies of the two parties.
I doubt anyone could have done better. The response speech is one of the least attractive and riskiest speeches to give. Pretty much all downside with very little upside.
To be sure, Jindal didn't up his political capital with this performance.

Relax everybody. Jindal will come back. Remember how Bill Clinton’s speech bombed at the ‘88 Dem Convention? When he said: “And in closing....” the crowd cheered wildly. I’d say he made a comeback. Bobby will be o.k.

He did fine. I think a lot of people here have fallen prey to the American Idol concept.
