(New York, NY) Last night, the president of the New York Young Republican Club, Daniel Peterson, sent a letter to the five Republican Party chairmen for each of the NYC boroughs asserting that the NYC GOP should not endorse Mayor Michael Bloomberg for a third term nor permit him to run on the Republican Party line.
The organization argues that Mayor Bloomberg has not demonstrated a sufficient commitment to urban Republican principles, such as fiscal responsibility and personal liberty, and has impeded the growth of the party city-wide after pledging to encourage it. According to Peterson, Republican support for Bloomberg has not aided the partys development in the past, and continued support would send the message that the Republican Party cares more about a candidates checkbook than his conservative credentials.

Tomorrow, all five county chairmen representing the Republican Party in New York City will meet to discuss whether or not they should allow Mayor Bloomberg run on the Republican line this Fall.
The Republican Party in New York City has fallen and hit rock bottom, mainly because it has drifted from the core party principles that we so often fight for. For us to support the mayor for a Third Term goes against many of those important ideals that define who we are.
I ask that you contact your county chairman or all five county chairman and tell them that you oppose giving Mayor Bloomberg the Republican line this year.
We are up against tough forces, but when it comes down to rebuilding our party on basic conservative foundations, we must strongly encourage opposition to a Third Mayoral Term.

Chairman Phil Ragusa - Queens GOP info@qgop.com

It's time to say enough selling out!
Please, email the county chairs. As the grassroots base, we are the voices the chairmen should be listening to. Not the has-been elected officials. We are not saying Bloomberg shouldn't run if he wants. We are just saying he should not run on our line. The Republican Party.
Thank you,
Daniel Peterson

As Executive Vice President of the Club, I wholeheartedly agree!

Long overdue.
What took you so long?
It took so long because we tried to get the other YR clubs to take a stance. Opposing a sitting mayor who donates heavily to the state party is not easy and has real costs. But this is one reason why the oldest Young Republican club in the nation remains independent from the state and national structures.
I just linked a couple of threads, and then I thought I should have checked.
THREE CHEERS FOR THE NY YOUNG REPUBLICANS!!!
Who says the Party is dead?!!
Young people that bring some hope to my failing heart.
Mayor Bloomberg supported NON-partisan elections.
He left the Republican party and is now an unaffiliated or independent voter.
Maybe these could be considered principled stances, that is he feels parties have not always acted in the best interest of the city and by being an independent he can avoid partisan politics to some degree.
He wants it both ways. He does NOT want to be in any political party, but he still wants to run on the line of a major, existing party.
I certainly don’t want him on the Republican line. He is NOT a Republican. But moreover, if the man had even the slightest bit of principle, he would say, “I am an independent this time, I will run on an independent ballot line, and I am confident the voters will find my name on the ballot and vote for me as an independent ONLY.
But he has NEVER stood for anything, so why expect him to do so now.
We should NOT give him the GOP line, because he is NOT a Republican at this time, and in my opinion, someone who is not enrolled in a party should run ONLY as an independent.
And I hear, too, that he has paid a visit to that loser FRED NEWMAN of the Independence Party, a party which owes its bloated registration figures to the fact that many voters, thought that by enrolling in the IP, they were become independents. Now I ask you, if you claim to be a force for change or reform, as the Independence Party always claims it is, if your very name serves to confuse the electorate, how can your party be a force for change?
Mike Bloomberg, like it or not, has become an international figure, and he still has to deal with a no talent creep like Newman? Mike, you’ve got a screw loose somewhere! (But not when it comes to increasing the wealth of Bloomberg, Inc by at least 5 times since you became Mayor)
And his plan to turn Times Square into a pedestrian mall for tourists is as cockeyed as they come. People like Times Square because it is real. Real people and cars and buses racing around all over the place, blowing their horns when someone's in front of them . . .
Making it into a place where just tourists walk around looking at one another is phony and wrongheaded.
Will make it even harder to get to the theaters on time also.
