"Whether Governor Palin runs for national office again is something that only time will tell. But the Republicans need some candidate who is neither one of the country club Republicans nor-- worse yet-- the sort of person who appeals to the intelligentsia. "

He's saying basically the same thing I said. Regrettably we still have the same pass go cards for our Presidents that we have had since our founding and Sarah doesn't have one, as unfair and ridiculous as it might be with liberals now in charge of our Universities.

She might be qualified and smart as a whip but she still has to get her toilet paper from an Ivy League school to be “in”. That's the way it's always been. She can be a VP but never a POTUS.

“Joe Biden has had decades of experience in being both consistently wrong and consistently a source of asinine statements.”

Best laugh of the day!

There you go is right. Another fine piece by Sowell.

I fully expect Bobby Jindal to be anointed by the Washington media and political establishment as the "new star" for the GOP after tonight. Not only will Washington embrace him but I also expect the MSM will give him a pass on his social views and personal life if/until Sarah is out of the picture.

Using the Whittaker Chambers story, Dr. Sowell makes the point beautifully about Washington's world view and way of life needing to be challenged. Personally I think it goes way past that....much of it needs to be torn down if America is to be revitalized.

It will take a special leader to accomplish that. Maybe Dr. Sowell sees some of those special qualities in Sarah that go far beyond what schools she went to or her social background. I know I do.

That was the perceived problem with Sarah.
She IS one of "us".

True, she's a little better looking than some of us. (OK she's a LOT better looking than me)
She's a little smarter than some of us.

But she IS one of us.

The elites and the intelligentsia didn't like it that we responded so overwhelmingly to someone that WASN'T one of "them".

... (T)here are conservative Republicans ... who are quick to see in various pragmatic moves of his since taking office an indication that [Obama] is not an extremist.... Pragmatism tells you nothing about extremism.

Great Googly Horny Toads, I LOVE THOMAS SOWELL.

I used to vote Republican Pragmatist. It got me Arnold. In the years since I've figured that out, I have changed my political thinking because of it; it is SO GRATIFYING to see my hard-learned new opinion verified by a great mind like that of Thomas Sowell.

I'll do no more voting for big government Republicans out of pragmatism; if it means the Democrat wins, it will be because the GOP let ME down, not the reverse. Pragmatism in voting conservative, Arnold taught me, is the political equivalent of pissing in the GOP well and fouling the water; it means big governmnent liberalism wins no matter which party is in office.

Sowell makes a good case for Palin. Nobody who voted for Obama can really say that Palin is too inexperienced to be president.

But still, the fact that Palin couldn't or wouldn't name one newspaper or magazine that she read to inform herself is pretty devastating. She looked quite inept at that point.

I know some people will say that it doesn't matter because her heart is in the right place and who needs the media anyway? But a lot of people said that about Bush and lived to regret their innocence or trustfulness or undemandingness.

I couldn't have imagined a better after-work article to read. This is fantastic. Hopefully, it *might* even change the minds of some people on the Right, (and here at FR), who have erroneously pegged Gov Palin as 'not electable'.
Gov Palin is simply magnificent. Her number of supporters will grow surely and steadily in the months and years ahead. What's great is that we are all going to be privy to have been witness to one of America's most remarkable stories and first female President.

This was poor article to excerpt. It’s clear from many of the comments that quite a few did not click on the link but simply knee-jerk replied to the first few lines without understanding what the entire article was saying.

The prolific professor hits the nail on the head once again.

I'll simply add that Gov. Palins's big sin is that she embodies the American spirit. That is anathema to the Ivy/Oxbridge crowd.
