Report: Kennedy Might Not Return to Senate, Speculation Grows That Wife Vicki May Succeed Him

Ailing Sen. Ted Kennedy may not return to the Senate, and speculation is brewing that the veteran Democratic lawmaker is setting up his wife, Vicki, to succeed him, according to a report Friday in the Boston Herald.

The article quoted friends of the family who said the Massachusetts senator's brain cancer has worsened and that he is resting at an undisclosed location in Florida.

Anthony Coley, a Kennedy family spokesman, disputed the Herald's report, telling FOX News that Sen. Kennedy is not on his death bed and continues to recover in warmer climates when not traveling back to Washington for Senate business.

Coley added that the report that Vicki Kennedy is in line to succeed her husband couldn't be farther from the truth.

Kennedy, 76, returned to Capitol Hill recently to vote on President Obama's stimulus bill. On Inauguration Day, he was taken by ambulance to the hospital when he suffered a seizure at a reception for the new president.

The Herald said people close to Kennedy expect he may have only a few months to live.

If there is an autopsy, it will take three people to lift his liver from his bloated mass. And there had better be a hazmat team waiting when the first crisscross incision is made ...

Knowing that cancer, he will probably be in a “sleeping coma” within two months, if not already, and dead 4-5 months after that, depending on how hard they try to keep him alive once he gets fluid filling his lungs.

That's why I love FR, first hand reports from the real world. Thank you for your story.

I hope I get this quote correct from one wise Freeper, “Democrats are giving us Kennedys faster than God can get rid of them.”

At this point he will be ten times the senator he ever was!

Thankfully, his first born son, Ted Jr., has never run for office.

Mary Jo Kopechne still cannot be reached for comment.

Nor can the millions who died in Southeast Asia in the communist holocaust that Edward Kennedy helped enable.

Thank you.... I think.

Wish I had that picture when my daughter was dating. Make every teenage boy look at it for 2 minutes before taking her out in car.

Guaranteed no hanky panky!

“Ted Jr., has never run for office.”

Wasn’t he the one who had a leg amputated because of cancer? He always seemed like the only decent one in the family.

I have a close friend whose aunt works for Teddy. She thinks the world of him because of how well he treats his staff. However, she said if Ted goes, there is no way in hell she is going to work for his wife.

I gotta ask this and not because Kennedy is a Liberal Democrat, but how did the notion that a wife or husband of a Congresscritter has any business at all assuming the office of said Congresscritter in the case of Death or Disability?

The spouse of the Vice-President or President can't do such. Nor a Supreme court Justice, in the regular world a Brain surgeon's spouse would not automatically assume the job of their deceased or ailing spouse. Or a Policeman or a Fireman, a Carpenter and Bricklayer etc.

So how did this notion that a spouse can step in for a Congresscritter get started? I mean should there not be an election for such. or at least appoint someone who maybe has more qualifications than having said "I do" in a wedding Ceremony.?

I think this all started in the Missouri Senate race when candidate Mel Carnahan was killed in a plane crash. His wife announced that she would take over his candidacy, and the next thing you know Ashcroft gets ousted due to a massive sympathy vote. No one even had the guts to question whether or not the whole debacle was even legal. But WTH, why should that matter?

Yes, that’s him. I only see his name mentioned when there is some new trouble with his mother, Joan.

Does she also inherit the keys to his liquor cabinets...

No because it's never been locked. The hinges on the doors have had to be replaced numerous times.

Aw Hell they had to replace the whole cabinet several times just because of the weight involved.
