Report: Kennedy Might Not Return to Senate, Speculation Grows That Wife Vicki May Succeed Him
Ailing Sen. Ted Kennedy may not return to the Senate, and speculation is brewing that the veteran Democratic lawmaker is setting up his wife, Vicki, to succeed him, according to a report Friday in the Boston Herald.
The article quoted friends of the family who said the Massachusetts senator's brain cancer has worsened and that he is resting at an undisclosed location in Florida.
Anthony Coley, a Kennedy family spokesman, disputed the Herald's report, telling FOX News that Sen. Kennedy is not on his death bed and continues to recover in warmer climates when not traveling back to Washington for Senate business.
Coley added that the report that Vicki Kennedy is in line to succeed her husband couldn't be farther from the truth.
Kennedy, 76, returned to Capitol Hill recently to vote on President Obama's stimulus bill. On Inauguration Day, he was taken by ambulance to the hospital when he suffered a seizure at a reception for the new president.
The Herald said people close to Kennedy expect he may have only a few months to live.

I know of no other legitimate job where a spouse is allowed to take the job upon the death of the job-holder. It is bizarre!

I don’t know why anyone would oppose Vicki for the senate.
It’s not like she killed somebody...

If Mary Jo Kopechne had lived, she would be 64 years old.
Through his tireless work as a legislator,
Edward Kennedy would have brought comfort to her in her old age.

Please, Massachusetts, get real.
Unfortunately, in most elections, barely more than a third of the electorate avoids voting Moonbat.
I hold out little hope for a decent replacement for Kennedy. The power to appoint was removed from the governor when Romney was in office, so it looks like the 87% democrat legislature gets to do it. But appointing Ted's wife may tick off a significant number of democrat voters, especially after the Princess Caroline debacle in NY.
To be honest, things are not bad enough here yet. The voting populace will have to suffer some chafing economic hardship before they send a Republican (or even a RINO) to Capitol Hill. But things will get worse very soon...our flaming moron of a governor, Deval Patrick, is cutting less than 1% from the patronage and welfare-ridden state budget and raising all kinds of fees and taxes.

I lost track of whos on the top of the succession pile in the Kennedys long ago. So have the Kennedy clan however the Kennedy's can afford the concern via "Joe Kennedy's booze running" that made them rich during the depression.

According to Wikipedia, in Massachussets, vacant Senate seats can only be filled by special election.

I would love to be there when Kennedy "passes over". I'd want to look into his eyes at that last moment to see if Mary Joe is waiting for him on the other side.
Maybe the goober-mint should make this a "pay per view" event. I bet they'd sell a s**tload of tickets.

Sad to hear about Socks the Cat. He did have a long, full life though, and was fortunate that Betty Currie took him in.

Why don’t they just run his Coffin, the braindead Dims of MA would elect him again.

Miss Vicki will not be the replacement. There will be a special election within 6 mo. after Ted’s eventual demise. In an ironic twist, if the MA state legislature hadn’t panicked in 2004 and took away appointment powers from Romney thinking that John Kerry(LOL) was going to win, Deval Patrick could have picked Vicki or anyone he wanted to. The state legislature will not reverse that, because they all want to move up the ladder......

Actually Joe made his money by causing the Great Crash and Shorted the market making him nearly a $Billion in 1929. The Kennedy’s made out handsomely off the Great Depression.

Vicki is unqualified. Left to Devall, he’d probably pick the only other black guy living in Massachusetts so it is best to have a special election.
