Dodd To Return Contributions From Financier Stanford
The Hartford Courant ^ | February 20, 2009 | MARK PAZNIOKAS

Posted on 02/20/2009 2:24:58 PM PST by george76

U.S. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd said Thursday he will return contributions received from financier R. Allen Stanford who is accused by federal regulators of defrauding investors of $8 billion.

"Whatever it is, all of it will be donated to charity," Dodd said ...

"Unfortunately, I'm not clairvoyant," said Dodd, a Democrat facing re-election next year. "In some cases, I've received money and support from people who turn out to be people you wouldn't want to be associated with."

Dodd was unsure whether he had ever met Stanford or exactly how much money he had received from the financier, either directly or from Stanford's employees. The Connecticut Post reported the figure at $27,500.

Dodd, who was at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford to talk about state and federal efforts to protect tenants from being evicted during foreclosures, once again found himself doing political damage control as he discussed the Stanford affair.

The senator shrugged off questions about his low job-approval rating in a recent poll, which has suggested he is vulnerable in next year's re-election campaign.

Dodd is a chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, which puts him at the center of federal efforts to stabilize the financial services industry.

He has struggled since last summer to resolve questions raised about two refinanced mortgages he received from Countrywide Financial in 2003.

...Dodd, a Democrat facing re-election next year.

Harry Reid has already started his re-election campaign here in Nevada. Has Dodd done the same? I'm wondering if these guys are feeling the heat.

“In some cases, I’ve received money and support from people who turn out to be people you wouldn’t want to be associated with.”

However, this is not the case here

Just as I posted on Wednesday:

Democrat fundraising process:

1. Hold illegal fundraising event before the election.

2. Spend ill-gotten funds to defeat opponents.

3. After the election, apologize and refund the money, claiming some procedural vagueness as the reason, instead of intentional law-breaking.

4. Repeat during the next election cycle.

The money has served its purpose and can now be returned as if it were never acquired.

Hmmm. Where there's a Dodd, there's a Kennedy. I wonder if Teddy was a recipient also.

This sounds like the clinton method. An eight year money laundering operation.

I wonder if Sean Hannity will return or donate the money his program makes from commercials for the Stanford gold exchange outfit owned by this crook. He reads them himself so they cost extra. I heard one recently and Sean was really swearing by them.

"Whatever it is, all of it will be donated to charity," Dodd said ..

Wouldn't it be better off being returned to Stamford's victims?

Possibly Jon Porter. He was a Republican state Congressman who lost his reelection bid last November. He would definitely get my vote.
