CNBC's Santelli Invited to the White House By Jeff Poor Created 2009-02-20 15:45
Will wonders ever cease? First, a NBC network airs its Chicago Mercantile Exchange floor reporter making a call to action [1] against all the populism that has inundated the political dialogue over the past six months. Now, the same reporter, Rick Santelli, has been invited by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs to the White House.
On CNBC's "Street Signs" Feb. 20, Santelli told viewers he would accept Gibbs invitation and although his critics thought he was over-the-top [2], he still felt good about his impassioned plea.
"Well, I tell you what Melissa Lee," Santelli said. "It's been a wild afternoon, but I do want to point out - I do believe I was invited to the White House by Mr. Gibbs and I want to let him know, I would love to. I would love to accept and the decaf sounds good, but I prefer tea, but thank you for bring this into the forefront. This is an issue that means a lot to everybody and I'm glad it's getting a high degree of introspection, debate and I think that's essential. I feel really good about that."
Gibbs in his Feb. 20 White House press briefing had urged Santelli to become familiar with the plan before he started criticizing it. Santelli said he would be happy to, but he hinted the last major piece of legislation that involved the public's tax money - the $787 billion stimulus plan - was forced through Congress without anyone reading it.
"Listen, I'd be more than happy to read any plan," Santelli said. "You know, I know that many congressmen didn't read the three-quarter of a trillion dollar, 1100-page plan. But, I'd love to show up. I want a dialogue. Enlighten me, enlighten America. Make us see the light. We want to be participating. We want this to work. We just want to all feel we're being treated fairly and equally."
Crap!
Now they’re going to find to location of the hidden rebel base!
That looks like one of those photos they put next to a closed casket.
Usually what happens when summoned to mafia “sit down”
Don’t get too excited. It seems to me that they also “invited” Sean Hannity to have a beer, and that sure isn’t happening. Rick is a tough, articulate guy who doesn’t back down from his principles. He is awesome.
If he goes (which I doubt will ever come about), he will give as good as he gets, but this crowd sure doesn’t seem to appreciate an honest and open discussion.
What a bunch of creeps.
“Santelli, dont go!!! Just tell them to go to hell.”
He CANNOT turn down an invitation to the White House.
He is a reporter, and he is being offered a chance to come directly to the White House. His employer SHOULD, by all rights, fire him if he decides to turn it down.
THAT SAID, it will be interesting to see what happens when he does go. Obama has surrounded himself with ECONOMIC THEORISTS, and most of them are SOCIALISTS.
Santelli is surrounded daily by the people actually in the trenches of the American Economy, driving it. The THEORISTS will try to explain to him why he sghould see things OBAMA’S way. (And maybe even pull out Santeli’s FBI FILE!!)
It’s just a little re-education weekend at the white house.
And if he doesn't go, well then The One's press minions can laugh him off as a phony & a coward.
Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.
I’m sure those not in jail by now, will show up at some point. ;-) This guy actually makes the Clinton’s look good by comparison.
IMO, the left was very upset more wasn’t done under the Clintons. They set up their wish list early this time, and have been ramming it through post haste.
Obama is a serious threat to this nation, not just because of the views he holds, but this guy is convinced he is the second coming, and he’s going to ram through every desire and move on to more.
Good luck...
Populism? No, populism is wanting to cut taxes on the little guy or throw up some tarriffs to save jobs. What Obama and the Dem Congress are doing is not populism, it's elitist shoving of an unpopular agenda down everyone's throats.
Now, the same reporter, Rick Santelli, has been invited by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs to the White House.
Yeah, but it's jsut so he can get "the talk."
"See Rick, we really didn't like what you did yesterday. You need to go on air and apologise for embarrassing us. And if it ever happens again, you can could on having an unfortunate car accident."
Well at least we have a good photo for the services.
They’ll lay on him till he pops. The full force of the Presidency is magnificent and intimidating. All that pressure on Santelli will be like a guy balancing the Great Pyramid point down on his head.
Message to other dissenters: Watch Out! We will use all the power we have to squeeze you.
You can be certain the MSM will come to Santelli’s defense like the weasels who ran the Yellow Cake/”Spy outed”/Scooter Libby story. /Absolute Sarcasm
How long before he starts getting the “Joe the Plumber” treatment from the MSM.
He shouldn’t turn down an invitation to the White House. It would be foolish and impolite.
His employer would probably fire him if he didn’t.
Maybe his visit might open up Obama’s mind a bit. Doubtful, but you never know.
This is good. (I do fear for Santelli though).
Maybe there would not have been a rant had President Messiah posted the bill 5 days ahead of the vote like he promised to. The lobbyists had it before the members. The members had access to five copies prior to the vote. The D’s had almost zero access to Pelosi, Emmanuel, and Reid, who built the bill by themselves.
Sure, educate us now that its too late, but at least let us know what we are in for.
They are going to try and neutralize him as fast as they can....Santelli is dangerous! They will try and talk him out of the tea party....you watch! I hope Santelli tells them to go to hell!
Don’t go Santelli, and if you go, don’t eat or drink anything unless you have a foodtaster with you!
Maybe his visit might open up Obamas mind a bit....
I don’t think so.....Obama’s mind has been set since the 60’s in radicalism...
I like his comment about no one being able to read the "stimulus" before it was passed. He has some real cajones and we could certainly use more of them now.
ought oh, this guy is going to get an attitude adjustment coupled with a few threats.
Santelli’s tax returns are on Geithner’s desk as we speak.
