TAXPAYERS' TEA PARTY
All taxpayers who owe additional taxes on April 15th....FILE AN EXTENSION.
If you have a refund due, go ahead and file...the earlier the better.
What would they do? It's perfectly legal. And---if enough of us do it---we'll demand a "bailout" from the IRS penalties for not paying til October.
Of course, we all know the gov't would just go on borrowing and spending. But it sure would get their attention. And I suspect even the liberal media would have to take notice of a taxpayer revolt if it were widespread.
What do y'all think?!

Screw filing. There is no law that requires me to file. Just stop sending them the money.
In the interest of clarity, a summary of the relevant United States Code provisions:
26 U.S.C. §§
1,
61, and
63 impose the tax,
26 U.S.C. §
6012 requires you to file a tax return if you have income of more than the exemption amount, and
26 U.S.C. §
6151 requires you to pay the tax at the time and place fixed for the filing of your return.
26 U.S.C. § 6012(a) recites in pertinent part: "
Returns with respect to income taxes * * * shall be made by the following: (1)(A) Every individual having for the taxable year gross income which equals or exceeds the exemption amount * * *."
The pleasant fantasy that there is no law requiring you to file a return, or to pay income taxes is often repeated on the Internet. However, it is not true, and you should not make tax decisions based on the concept.
The idea that there is no law requiring you to file a return is of course completely understandable: the relevant provisions are dispersed throughout the ridiculously large federal tax code (26 U.S.C. §§ 1 - 9833). Nevertheless, the fact that these laws are written down in the law somewhere allows the government to presume that you know about it.

they will still charge you interest and penalties on what you havent paid in. Can't we cite Geitner on the penalties and interest?

“Lets have 10,000,000 tax protesters show up in all of the state capitols on the same day, just like a massive anti-war march, but larger!”
Read my response above. I have a similar idea, only we burn fake tax filing envelopes and keep a tally of all the money we represent. First year, we don’t actually do a tax revolt, because they’ll make examples of us. But we let them know how much $ we are talking about.

I suggest having nine children and tithing. Then you’ll find you’re not paying income tax!
Seriously, I haven’t put much effort into tax-reduction strategies because we do it the simple way. I’m even a fan of overwithholding, because it keeps my husband from spending the money: when it shows up in one big refund check, I know I can buy a shed or pay the charge bill.

Can't we cite Geitner on the penalties and interest? Heck, we could cite Geitner, Rangel, and Daschle, and I'm imagining that would help a lot. /sarc

perhaps 50,000 people showing up in DC with pitchforks and torches, pitch and feathers, and 537 rails
would send the message that we’re a little unconfortable with the present situation.

For the first time in my life I actually bought a gun last year. I have wanted to since 9/11 but always felt like it was just a paranoid knee-jerk reaction. I don't feel that way anymore.

I seriously want to do something ... just not sure what. How about a little bit of civil disobedience? Stamp or write "tax cheat" over Geithner's name on US bills which bear his signature. It's not much, but it might help vent some frustration.
