She has the mistaken belief that this is a consumer confidence crisis, not realizing that it is financial protectionism (mostly in Europe in Sept/Oct) that kicked off the credit liquidation spiral. What nationalization does is convince the rest of the world that we too will become financially protectionist since that is the inclination of the new bureaucrat owners.
I have a question....
If your local “small friendly home town” bank becomes insolvent because it had substantial investment in fannie Mae, If FDIC comes in and takes control and then sells to Big Time Bank, and if the Big Time Bank then gets TARP money from the first increment, is the government really out any money. That is, FDIC is responsible for the <$100 k accounts and has in effect placed that burden on TARP.
This has happened twice to two local banks. One CEO shot himself.
