New Yorkers to Boycott NY Post Over "Racist" Cartoon

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Hundreds of demonstrators rallied to boycott the New York Post on Thursday, branding the newspaper as racist for publishing a cartoon that appeared to compare President Barack Obama to a chimpanzee.

Demonstrators led by civil rights activist Al Sharpton chanted "End racism now!" outside the parent company's skyscraper in midtown Manhattan and called for the jailing of Rupert Murdoch, whose international media conglomerate News Corp owns the Post.

The newspaper has defended the cartoon as a parody of Washington politics, but Sharpton said it exploited a potent image in the history of racism toward blacks.

I live in Ct but I subscribe to the NY Post.

Same here, only in Long Island

The deliveryman usually drops it off around 6 AM. I walk back and forth, looking out the window, until it arrives.

I'm not usually up that early in the AM, but there it is on the driveway at 7:30am, just waiting for my eyes to feast on the bad puns and sometimes tasteless headlines of that mornings edition :)

On the rare occasion the delivery is delayed and my morning routine is ruined.

Scary thought of that happening (usually rarely though) ... they deliver it in a red bag, which is great because if it snows or is snowing during the early AM, the red bag sticks out of the snow :) Unlike Newsday, which is delivered in a clear bag and often gets lost in the snow cover ... I can kick around the driveway a bit to find my NY Post fairly easily if it got buried completely ... Good Stuff :)

I always bring it to the office for my co-workers to read, and they relish it too ... whenever there is a problem and it didn't get delivered on time (or not at all), I saunter into the office and glumly state: "The Post didn't get delivered this morning" :( What a bummer ....

Hmm. A boycott with zero impact on revenues to the paper. I’m sure the opposite will be true.

I signed up for their electronic delivery specifically because of this.

Being offended is a political tactic that works. That's the only reason Sharpton and others are "offended."

I don't think many of Al Sharpton’s peoples buy the NY Post. One of the ladies in that picture looks like she might use it as a blanket while sipping Night-train on the park bench. They need to put down the bottle and pick up a job.

I hope the NYP doesn’t bow to this con job. Al Sharpton should be ashamed of himself for exploitation of the ignorant.

Race pimps like Sharpton have been laughing up their sleeves for years at their ability to stir outrage over artificial charges of racism that benefit themselves but do little toward resolving legitimate issues.

It’s a sad commentary on lack of knowledge and comprehension of events occurring currently in our lives that anyone could see that cartoon and read the blurb in the bubble and think it had anything to do with race.

Every time we allow these charlatans to succeed at their con games, the integrity of our whole system and culture is compromised.

You can browse all of Sean Delonas’ cartoons here, including yesterday’s:

Sean is also a talented portrait artist. Unfortunately, his personal Web site is down. I wouldn’t doubt that he’s been threatened...

First you’d have to instill within them an intellect; then you’d have to teach them to read; and finally you’d have to buy each one a paper and pay them $50 each and some cool bling to pretend they’re reading it.

“excellent post! the dems have sort-term memory issues, obviously.”

There memories are fine. Its just that they dont care about logic or consistency. All that matters is what benefits their agenda. That means you forgive a RAT for doing what you crucified a Repub for doing yesterday.

The hypocrisy and selective outrage of the left is laughable. There was nothing in the cartoon to "advocate" killing the President. However, when Bush was President, this guy actually did on network tv:

The Late, Late, Late Show with Craig Kilbourn

Now I know you won't believe this, but the lefties just laughed off this threat againtst "The Chimp".

Bush was shown assingnated in a TV ‘docudrama’! There was zero ambiguity in that.

I am buying 20 Posts tomorrow to make up for this “boycott”

I thought exactly that when I saw this headline. If I were stateside, I'd buy about 20 of them and hand them out to friends.

I'll be home shortly for a break. If this stupid boycott is still going on, I'll do just that and also see who their sponsors are and support whichever ones I can.
