NEW YORK (Reuters) – Hundreds of demonstrators rallied to boycott the New York Post on Thursday, branding the newspaper as racist for publishing a cartoon that appeared to compare President Barack Obama to a chimpanzee.

Demonstrators led by civil rights activist Al Sharpton chanted "End racism now!" outside the parent company's skyscraper in midtown Manhattan and called for the jailing of Rupert Murdoch, whose international media conglomerate News Corp owns the Post.

The newspaper has defended the cartoon as a parody of Washington politics, but Sharpton said it exploited a potent image in the history of racism toward blacks.

Chimpanzees rally to boycott New York Newspaper.

Hundreds of chimpanzees from all over the northeast rallied in zoos to complain over the recent New York Post cartoon which they alleged likened chimps to the POTUS. “We’re not buying the paper’s claim that this was not intentional mockery of our species,” said O. Rang. Utan of the ACLU. “Say what they may, the obvious fact is that the paper was using the recent slaughter of a chimpanzee by police as an excuse to demean chimpanzees. In coverage of the incident, no effort was made to present the incident from the point of view of the chimpanzee nor was any consideration given to the feelings of the many chimpanzees who feel that they are often likened to human beings, dressed up in human clothing, and encouraged to perform ridiculous activities that make them look like some sort of inferior primates.” “They don’t want to be judged by the content of their characterization, and they particularly resent the impression created by the cartoon that chimps wrote the stimulus bill,” said Utan.”They feel that not even a large room full of retarded chimps could do that poor a job.”

Went to the grocery yesterday after I saw it....Ran into two friends as I entered and shared it with them....They laughed hysterically “yelp! That’s our government” etc...Another friend came up while they were laughing. They shared it with her...As I went though the grocery I could hear other small groups laughing....None of them mention BO. They all mentioned “our government” or “congress”. Comments were: that’s about as smart as they are! How stupid do they think we are?

Thanks for the *bump*, Geron ... and please let me rant some more about this: Eric Holder also 'accused' Americans as being 'self segregating' and not 'melting into the melting-pot' ... well, EXCUSE ME, Mr Holder ... and EXCUSE every other AMERICAN of every other ethnic, religious, and racial group, but there is this little inconvenient ditty in the Bill of Rights which implies something to the effect of "FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION", or haven't you heard of that, Mr AG ??? This means that I and anyone else may 'segregate' with friends and associate with absolutely anyone that I wish too, and "congress may make no law" either prohibiting nor forcing me otherwise ...

Sheesh!!! /rant off :)

Lets see this act of racism, per big Al Sharp.

Looks like a case of an insane animal being compared to insane Washingtonian's.

This was over some MALL thing, about not mixing at the Malls.
Amazing, 1,000’s upon 1,000’s of people are losing their jobs, & are not going to the Malls, and the AG of the USA calls them cowards, for the sake of some high powered hostility. Oh, Ya, he was a big corporate attorney at Covington and Burlingotn and did not mix with the trailer trash at the Crossings.
Guy, is really out to lunch, can even a 1/2 breed comment and not be considered a race card deal. What Malls does Eric Holder shop at, since he is so up on soem high horse on
his bravery.
Was he brave enough to shop in Viet Nam, or did he leave that to other young men of his generation, when that was convenient. A lecture from Holder on cowards really takes the cake, that sounds like a lecture from Cheney on ways to evade the draft, and still get a high political position in D C.

The really funny thing is that New Yorkers are boycotting the New York Times ig time because it no longer matters.

The dividend was ended today and the stock is under $5.00

I was alluding to Ward Churchill’s reference to the 9-11 victims as “little Eichmann’s” but yours is a pretty good comparison too.

Great reply.

Did you see the one about the man given the third degree by a cop accusing him of a threat to the Zero, and a visit from the FBI because he had a “Abort Obumbi, not babies sign on his car.

HOW MANY things did we see about killing bush or worse?
Racist bast****. They have no reason to be disturbed at a cartoon. Oh wait, who else gets disturbed by cartoons? Hmmm?
