Yesterday we noted the horrible story of 37-year-old Aasiya Hassan of Orchard Park, N.Y., who last week was beheaded and whose husband, Muzzammil, has been charged with her murder. We wondered what the National Organization for Women had to say about this, but couldn't find a word on NOW.org, the group's Web site.
It turns out, however, that a different Web site, NOWNYS.org, on Monday posted a strong statement on the subject:
NOW New York State is horrified that Erie County DA, Frank A. SeditaII , has referred to this ghastly crime as "the worst form of domestic violence possible." The ridiculous juxtaposition of "domestic" and "beheading" in the same journalistic breath points up the inherent weakness of the whole "domestic violence" lexicon. What is "domestic" about this violence? NOW NYS President Marcia Pappas says "it is high time we stop regarding assaults and murders as a lover's quarrels gone bad. . . ."
And why is this horrendous story not all over the news?
This was, apparently, a terroristic version of "honor killing," a murder rooted in cultural notions about women's subordination to men. Are we now so respectful of the Muslim's religion that we soft-peddle atrocities committed in it's name?
What is this deafening silence? . . .
You of the press, please shine a light on this most dreadful of murders. In a bizarre twist of fate it comes out that Muzzamil Hassan is founder of a television network called Bridges TV, whose purpose it was to portray Muslims in a positive light.
This a huge story. Please tell it!
Meanwhile, speaking of deafening silence, NOW.org still has yet to say Word 1 about the subject. We were a bit confused about the distinction between NOW and NOW New York State...

The beheading of women is a matter for states to decide?
That’s above my pay grade.
As long as "we" is being used in a very general and very loose sense then: Yes, "we" are now so respectful of the Muslim's religion that we soft-peddle atrocities committed in it's name.
Terrorists have to be rubbing their grimy hands with delight at the cowardice of the left and its lapdog press.
Well, this delegation from the Commonwealth of Virginia cast ITS vote in OPPOSITION of the beheading of women.
I am surprised to hear that NOW is still in operation, they haven’t had any legitimacy since the early 1990’s. Perhaps their steadfast support of President Clinton was the moment they jumped the shark, or perhaps they were simply too inefficient a leftwing organization to be treated deferentially.

Yeah....that old tenth amendment...rearing it’s head again.
This story got play on all the local channels yesterday. All of them (that I saw, anyway) mentioned the “Bridges TV” and how this moslem guy who wanted to portray Islam in a positive light beheaded his wife after she filed for divorce. On the local Fox station, I thought I detected a suppressed laugh from the anchor as she reported the story.
I don’t intend to forget this story. If I’m ever confronted by a muslim wanting to portray their cult in a “positive” light, I’m gonna ask if he’s gonna whack his wife’s head off.
The sad truth is that the ideologues of NOW do not differentiate between a woman who has been whistled at on the street and one who has just been beheaded. All men are oppressors, all women victims. Within that mindset there’s really nothing remarkable going on here.
I don't think NOW understands the word "domestic".
(looking at picture of 3 monkeys)
OHHHHH!!! you can’t post pictures of monkeys! Cause we all know it’s racist! Didn’t you see the thread about the dead chimp cartoon?
Also forbidden is the story about the rogue raccoons on the White House grounds.
See, if Prop 8 had NOT passed, this wouldn’t be an issue in California. ;’) Thanks geo.
If a member of the NRA had done this - we’d never hear the end of it.
I’m with NOW in being with the States such that each can determine if it is illegal to not allow wife beheading.
