A long-time member of the Southington town council has been suspended for two weeks without pay from his job as director of the town's chamber of commerce for comments at a recent council meeting in which he referred to a Satanic symbol while mentioning President Barack Obama.
Arthur Secondo will be suspended as director of the Greater Southington Chamber of Commerce starting today, said Marc Pelletier, chairman of the chamber's board of directors. He said the suspension was because of the comments Secondo made but would not discuss why they upset the chamber's board.
The comments were made at the council's Feb. 9 meeting and came at the end of a rambling statement Secondo made opposing proposed increases to various fees the town charges. "They don't want additional fees. Let's not go against what this government - and everybody loves this Obama. Everybody said he's - I think we should check the back of his head to see if he has 666 there - but that is another story," Secondo said, according to minutes of the meeting posted on the town's website.
Secondo would not comment on the situation when reached on Wednesday morning, although officials said he has since apologized to the council and the chamber. It was not clear why he mentioned President Obama and the 666 symbol, which refers to the Devil.
Town Council Chairman John Barry said he and others on the council were shocked by the comment. "His comments were very distasteful," Barry said. "But Art knew that immediately and he was very remorseful. People were in shock, we didn't understand why he made the comment."

“666” does not refer to Satan. It refers to the Anti-Christ, which may be accurate in this case. Time will tell.

Could have been worse. Give them time, after all it has only been four weeks and the proper regulations regarding blasphemy have yet to be completed.
I just called to voice my support for him. I told the person answering that Art’s remarks were appropriate and accurate and that it was wrong to suspend him. The woman answering enthusiastically agreed and thanked me for calling. Maybe if enough support is garnered for him they will see how ridiculous their adoration for the Obamessiah is. Now that life has given this guy Art some lemons, he needs to make lemonade. He should publish an article that examines the possibility of whether zer0bama is the Antichrist as predicted in the Bible. He could make money from it, and if the town council has a problem with what he says, it becomes a religious/academic freedom issue.

But it was a Chamber of Commerce employee that was suspended for a remark at a town council meeting. The employee of the Chamber of Commerce was also a town councilman.
This is typical of reporting today.
It stinks.
