Editorial: Do GOP senators value no-tax vow more than their oath of office? Feb. 18, 2009
For observers outside the Capitol bubble, California's free-fall toward the abyss must seem baffling.
For weeks, lawmakers have known the state was running out of money.
The governor and others have warned that, without a fix in the current-year budget, the state would be forced to lay off state employees and suspend infrastructure projects, putting more people out of work.

This is so damn absurd!. Several large California cities from Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Oakland, to San Francisco are small socialist enclaves. We have tens of millions of illegal immigrants that is costing the state an estimated $10B in services. The Speaker alone has nearly 130 employees as staff! as does the Senate Pro Tem Leader. Traffic is gridlock even during non-rush hours and if you encounter a fender-bender it's a journey to hell. The public schools and colleges have all been hijacked by tenured socialist professors and school and college kids have all been trained to become Obamots. The union thugs at SEIU and CTA run the state. And now Reoublican legislators are unpatriotic? This is the sludge that gushes forth from the MSM.

How about a list of the biggest advertisers, so we can let them know who’s next to be out of work due to boycotts if they support this kind of thinking?

“Do GOP senators value no-tax vow more than their oath of office?”
They value their job security above everything else. Just imagine for any of them to lose their position and have to do an honest day’s of work.

Remember the federal govt shutdown in 1995 when the Republicans in Congress and Clinton were at an impasse? The dems and media were able to totally pin the blame on republican congress - lots of video of kids crying because evil republicans closed down the parks. They are setting up to do the same here. Blame republicans for the 20k people getting fired during a recession, and will use it to get the last remaining good people out of the california legislature.

The Bee doesn’t care about making money. They are only trying to drown slowly enough that they can take the rest of the state with them.

That sounds like the BEST AND MOST WISE THING TO DO when you are $41 billion in the hole.
So the GOP is apparently forcing the state to do the right thing by refusing to going along with the wrong thing (like raise taxes in a recession).

They tried to pull a fast one on Republicans when people saw the spending cap was full of loopholes and would take effect only if people agreed to tax themselves MORE! The other problem is the terrible politics for Republicans. They have to explain why Joe Six Pack has to pay MORE so liberal Hollywood millionaires could get tax breaks!

hmmm - 43M market cap. Anyone thinknig we could all pile in and buy this thing up, cut the crap and produce a pro-constitution paper for cali to expose all the nonsense? Maybe even turn a profit? I’m willing to go in for a thousand - if we can get 22k people to do the same we would own the place. Just a thought....now I’ll wonder off and look at some other market caps to see whether we could do the same elsewhere.

Easy to solve.
Drill off the Calif. coast and collect the revenue.
Oh No - that would mean changing our commitment to CO2 remission and Global Warming.
Better to import energy from coal energy plants and fossil fuel plants in Mexico.
Don't want any dirty manufacturing plants either.
So, then where are the jobs and incomes to tax to support the state? Gone elsewhere.
Time to feel the heat California and reset to reality.
Tax the people more and kill more businesses and have more people with the money leave the state.
I say - Drill here, drill now
Sorry if its is an old saying - it just might be the solution.

Why is it that the definition of “compromise” by liberals always involves taxpayers grabbing their ankles?

Exactly.
I don't know if they've done it yet, but the Republicans need to come up with their own bill solving the budget problems.
