At 3 a.m. mountain time, former Border Patrol agent Jose Compean was released from the Elkton Federal Prison in Elkton, Ohio. Former agent Ignacio Ramos was released about five hours later from the Phoenix Federal Prison in Phoenix, Ariz.
Ramos and Compean will officially be released from Federal Bureau of Prison custody on March 20th, but on Tuesday both were allowed to rejoin their families. They had been in prison since January 2007.
Ramos and Compean were in prison for shooting drug smuggler Osvaldo Aldrete Davila and then trying to cover it up.
On President Bushs last day in office, Jan. 19, 2009, he commuted the sentences of the two former Border Patrol agents.
KFOX has a crew in Phoenix covering the reunion and we will have much more on KFOX News at Six, KFOX News at Nine, and kfoxtv.com.
Bull crap of the deepest, most vile kind.
My husband called me to tell me (he’s driving and listening to GB) that the big news turns out to be that he has already scored their first interview, but it won’t be until after Mar 20, seemingly because as the article states, they are still technically in federal custody until then.
I’m so glad they’re out. Bet their families are a little happy about it too!
Bush should have pardoned them, hell he should have never prosecuted them.
Not nearly as vile as TARP, which Mr. Bush supported.
That is good news. Thanks for the ping.
The correct outcome would have been a pardon not a commutation.
Oh this is excellent news! Too bad HUSSEIN’s signing of the crapulous bill is taking precedence over this news!
So glad to know you're a mind-reader, but a "talented" fool is still a fool.
Hes lucky to have your unconditional love and devotion in spite of destroying the Republican party.
Destroyed the Republican party, is it? Hmmmm...all those so-called real conservatives who are always looking to throw yet another "RINO" out of the party couldn't possible share any blame for our recent electoral losses, now could they.
His legacy will forever be setting the table for, then delivering Obama.
If you want to know who, as you put it, "set the table" for Obama's rise, first look to those who backed and financed his preternaturally metoric rise up the political ladder. Then look to our seditious media who sold this narcissistic empty-suited Marixst as some kind of political wunderkind coming to save humanity. Then look to the congress critters on both sides of the isle who betrayed us multiple times, some for self-enrichment and some for political gain.
While your at it, be sure to look to the Right wing punditocracy, which decided after the 2004 election that they needed to broaden their own audiences. So they chose to do so by attacking Republicans at every turn. They whipped people like you into an anti-Republican frenzy, and helped to push us all over a cliff from which there may never be any return.
Last, but certainly not least, look to all those so-called real conservatives who so easily find "RINOs" under every pebble on the political beach, but who don't know how to play the game of politics effectively to save their lives. The term RINO is thrown about so often, against so many people, that it's lost all practical meaning.
I am inclined to think that was the biggest mistake of his presidency. However, I am adult enough to be able to acknowledge a person's honest mistakes without ripping the that individual to shreds.
A PARDON does clear one's name....and restores all rights.
I bet they do not look forward to more meat-grinding in a court of law...especially with federal courts during the Obama administration.
BTW, Cheney lobbied Bush for a Pardon for Scooter.
Ramos/Compean ping list

Breaking! Ramos is out of prision! No word on Compion yet
1. Don't presume to do my thinking for me.
2. There can be only one "biggest" anything, although, when it comes to something that is not empircal, people can differ as to what the "biggest" is.
Otherwise, IMHO He was above average on national defense (terrorism included) and average on domestic policy.
I agree!
“A PARDON does clear one’s name....and restores all rights.”
Legally, yes. There is still a stigma, right or wrong.
They requested the communtation to fight in the 5th Circuit (appellate court) and clear name legally and practically.
That’s great news!!!!! Congratulations to them and their families for persevering. This proves the people do make a difference if they are persistent.
Ramos and Compean Ping!
Good news! Political prisoners no more. I trust some patriotic American will give them a job no matter what their ‘record’ says.
I'm so glad that they are out (or soon will be) but I really hate the whole stinkin' thing to begin with.
*sigh* No sense in rehashing to the choir but man, what a rotten way to mess up people's lives!
