TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran restructured its military in an effort to improve its air defense capabilities, military commanders have said.

The move is seen as part of a broader military build up by Tehran, which is concerned about the U.S. military's presence in neighboring Iraq and Afghanistan and Israeli threats to target its nuclear facilities.

Gen. Ahmad Mighani announced over the weekend that Iran's supreme leader ordered a new branch be split off from the air force to deal specifically with any threats to the country's air space. The order rearranges the regular military into four branches — the ground force, the navy, the air force and the air defense force, he said.

Will they be using the same state-of-the-art Russian stuff Syria had when the Israeli’s “walked through” on their aerial tour of their nuke facilities?

Have they consulted The None on this matter?

I wonder what they’re doing for spare parts for their old Hawk AAA Missile system?

You are right, they were never detected.

Did the U.S. put out their eyes?

Possibly.

The slogans are similar between the ayatollah or however the hell you spell it and obama. The followers are fed on the same rhetoric.

Russia has been upping Iran to the best stuff they have. It’s not the same things used in Syria as I understand it.

The Israelis urinated all over Syrian airspace on that one.

Probably almost as good as Syria’s.

Well, if they buy from the same source that sold them the missiles and defense system that failed so miserably in the past then I would suggest the US help them make the purchase.

As I recall the systems were totally ineffective! They need more of that!

It’s a pure urban myth. It was the likes of Debka that gave Syria advance Russian SAM systems.

Israel took the path of least resistance, partly through Turkish airspace, to an undefended target in the Syrian desert. The Syrians wanted the site as sterile as possible in order not to draw attention to it. They gambled and lost.

Think about it? There is no magic button to disable an entire air defense system. No Israeli planner is going to route a strike package through such a system. That is why the F-15s combat jettisoned some their external fuel tanks in Turkey. The F-15s skirted through the weakest part of the Syrian system using Turkish airspace.

It would have taken the Israeli’s weeks to physically destroy the current Syrian SAM system with Wild Weasel tactics. The Israeli’s suffered at the hands of the SAM belts during Yom Kippur in 1973. It took them weeks to supress those systems at great loss to aircraft and aircrew.
