I've been having a running "commentary" with 2 gov't workers in the comments section of this article. Their self-centered, self-serving posts are thoroughly revolting. NO appreciation that the taxpayers are providing them and their cronies with overly-generous GOLDEN PARACHUTES at taxpayer expense.
Would appreciate a few Freepers following the links and backing me up. I'm poster "jeannebee" starting at 8:40am on 2/16/09. The assinine government workers are "gubmtwrkr" and "KJ250".
Go read it and see if they infuriate you as much as they did me.
Sorry, Im in a running battle with two Obamas on another forum..!
Best defense against such is to mock them, along with asking questions.
This is the internet, they could just be yanking your chain.
If they aren’t faking, then have more fun by turning it around on them.
The Founding Fathers knew about these people even back then:
“He has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.”
- Declaration of Independence -
Lol. Thats sounds like a verse from the King James Bible.
I think you made your points well.
These people work at your pleasure. If you and others like you decide to live a subsistence existence - making as little as you need to get by, those people will not have jobs.
I’m self employed, too. We don’t get “paid” holidays and “paid” sick days and “paid” personal days and “paid” vacation days and “paid” take your dog to the vet days. If we don’t work, we don’t get paid. There is freedom and flexibility in being self employed which I wouldn’t want to give up.
At some point Atlas Will Shrug. The producers will stop producing when the lion’s share of their production goes to support a system full of people who produce nothing at all. Government does not produce - they only take.
Write that the Ponzi Scheme that’s collapsing in regards to the auto makers and the UAW will eventually be repeated with government workers. A foretaste of what’s to come is now happening in CA.
First of all, “government worker” is a contradiction in terms, akin to “dehydrated water” or “the lovely Mrs. Clinton.” While one can be EMPLOYED by The Government, one never WORKS for The Government. “Work” is defined as productive labor, not simply keeping a chair warm and drawing a paycheck.
You’re not from or in NY. What dog do you have in this fight? I have a friend who is retired on the NY Govt. Pension system, and she is barely making ends meet. And this is before we’ll feel the full effects of the state of the economy. We’ve discussed this a few times.
You have NO IDEA what the hell you’re talking about. The Pension System IS on a tier system, and retirement age is according to tier, NOT at age 55.
Uninformed opinions such as yours fan the flames of this type of class warfare. Next time, talk about your own state, when you decide to play god with other people’s lives.
I grew up in New York State. Can I play?
You see, when I was growing up we were taught that one legislature couldn't bind another, and there was NO STATE SALES TAX. All those so-called state workers were at the bottom of the pay barrel then too. They didn't get a pension, or if they did it was minimal. Back then we had schools, roads, police, and they cleared the roads when it snowed. There isn't a single "government service" that the people who live in my old house now get that my family didn't get. But now the SALES TAX IS EIGHT AND A HALF PERCENT. (That's usually more than the net profit the seller is getting, and NY State puts up nothing and risks nothing.) So where is all that 8.5% money going? My guess is that it going entirely to the political class which is mostly State employees, and it's never enough. Gov Patersen wants to RAISE TAXES. Bloomberg WANTS TO RAISE TAXES. For what? I can tell you it's certainly not for those people who live in my old house. It's for all those pensions being paid to bloated payrolls past. Sooner or later the People aren't going to stand for it anymore. The current legislature is under no obligation to pay out State funds at rates or amounts committed to by previous legislatures. It's time to cut State pensions, to cut them significantly; and to cut State taxes back to the levels everyone lived with until August 1, 1965, when the sales tax was instituted.

“I have a friend who is retired on the NY Govt. Pension system, and she is barely making ends meet”
So, is that everyone’s else’s problem? Maybe your friend didn’t plan for their retirement?
How many private sector employees get a pension?
Exactly. The thing I resent the most is the implication that THEIR retirement is MY problem...but I have no say in it. I’ll take care of myself, thanks. And I resent like hell being told I have to fund cushy landings for any ole warm body that showed up for work for 20 years or has inside connections with some pol.
Lauren, I’m sure your friend is an exception. Nowhere have I argued they should get NO pension. Most of them just don’t deserve the overly-generous hands they’ve dealt themselves.
And worse, they have that snotty “it’s none of your business” attitude. Just hand over the $$$$!
I refuse to post to a site with so many useless scumbags.....
1. The State tax is 4% and the rest is local, and keeps increasing.
2. The State pension system covers State employees. It also covers county and municipal employees, many of whom get paid spit. Please believe me that bonanzas from big taxes are never seen by lower paid government personnel.
I resent the stereotypes that are being presented on FR, concerning government employees. There are many low paid govt. employees who are fellow conservatives. Your painting with a broad brush is divisive within conservative movement, and as I said, another type of class warfare.
There are many companies or corporations that have some sort of pension or profit sharing plan - even smaller companies. They also offer some health insurance coverage.
I don't know where you are, but such is the case in the NYC area.
If you really want to get irate, check out the pension plans of some phone and utility companies.
They are idiots, and you aren’t even in NY State. This whole thing is such a non-issue for you with these particular people.
Yes, I can see that my friend's pension is affecting you all the way in Indiana.
Why don't we fight the socialists in the battles that count, rather than fight individuals and their issues in states that have nothing to do with us? Keep on doing the latter, and you will end up dividing the conservative movement.
Even that is putting too nice a face on it.
For every Kj250, there are tens or hundreds of other government drones (tax collectors, accountants, HR types, etc.) all taking their piece of the generous taxpayers' dollars before any reach KJ250.
TO REPEAT: HE/SHE doesn't pay ANY taxes; rather they are living off the generosity of the American taxpayer and should be d@mn thankful.
TO that end, any "tax cuts", etc. should be carefully tailored to those working to pay the taxes collected, not those living off them (including welfare recipients). IMHO
Lauren,
The same unions use the same tactics in every level of government across the country. Public pensions are choking my state and local governments, too.
No one resents someone like your friend. Works a normal job for decades then retires with a moderate pension. But the abuses are far more common than you assert.
Read pensiontsunami.com regularly. It’s a compilation of news reports, mostly local or regional, about pension problems and abuses everywhere. You’ll see what we’re angry about.

Nope, your friend’s pension does not affect me at all.
From your other posts on here you are the one affected accusing others of class warfare and splitting the conservative movement. I have no idea where you are coming from. I feel for your friend and their inability to live off of their pension, but hey, there are millions across the US in the same boat. And everyone’s solution is for me and other taxpayers to pay for their poor planning. That is not conservative.
