It's only a matter of time until something that fails is linked to a lot of other things that will fail in turn.
I know that every generation since the dawning of time has thought, based on their experience, that things couldn't get any worse, that the end was near. And I know that we're still here. But I also know that you can start putting water in your canoe by the bucket-full and everything will seem to be OK for a long time. But then, at some point, the scale is tipped and all hell breaks loose.
I wonder how close we are to that tipping point?
Mass systems fail massively. That's why communism always fails; big gubmit always fails, and human attempts at world domination fail. This upcoming failure, like the arms race of the 50s, has the potential to unleash world war. And maybe it's time for the end times, who knows? We must all be ready to sacrifice our lives for what is right, in bad times as well as good.
That is why Christ's message is so important. He wants a world in which everyone is devoted to the same ideal of loving and forbearing with people, being honest and taking care of oneself and one's family without coveting your neighbor. It is a mass system only in the sense that in a green forest, most of the trees are green because that's within them, not imposed upon them.
Things can come back in time, but for now it's wasted effort to try to stem the tide, slow down the decline, or tinker with things in hopes of fixing the problem.
We need to batten down the hatches and see if we can get 2000 calories a day into people for the foreseeable future.
