the White House is looking to install a small video or computer screen into the podium used by the president for press conferences and events in the White House. "It would make it easier for the comms guys to pass along information without being obvious about it," says the adviser.
The screen would indicate whom to call on, seat placement for journalists, pass along notes or points to hit, and so forth, says the adviser.
Using a screen is nothing new for Obama; almost nothing he said in supposedly unscripted townhall events during the presidential campaign was unscripted, down to many of the questions and the answers to those questions. Teleprompter screens at the events scrolled not only his opening remarks, but also statistics and information he could use to answer questions.
Obama had a teleprompter set up for his remarks last week, before taking questions, but the White House couldn't use the teleprompter for anything but the remarks, because the journalists were so close to the screens. Further complicating matters, teleprompter copy can't be easily updated in real time, in a setting like a White House press conference.

"OK, who loaded the Kenya speech?"
I remember the suit bump controversy.
I also remember that one time there was one reporter from a tiny news outlet who once asked a non-combative question of W, and all Hell broke loose.
>Somebody hack into it!
Later, at a press conference:
“And do you know that MILLIONS of women were affected by Woman’s Suffrage last year? This is an easily preventable condition that the Government has done nothing about for DECADES... I promise that my administration will not sleep until the immediate and demonstrable threat of Woman’s Suffrage has been eliminated in this country!”
Fine ... but why is he not allowed something to prompt him, say, on finer details of an answer?
Not defending Obama here ... he might well misuse the capability. But again, what is intriniscally wrong with the idea of prompting a president on some of his answers?
what a joke he is
That’s why he has his blackberry!
Just saw your pic!!!!!!
Obamessiah can't think on his feet or speak for himself. He needs the answers to questions posed FED TO HIM.
Obama is just a little puppet controled by others.
It will be very telling to see when and how often the Zero has to look down at his little screen.
And the libs had the audacity to criticize Bush. He may not have been the most eloquent speaker but he was no coward. He faced the press and called on his biggest critics for questions.
How comical the MSM will look sitting in thise seats puffed up with their own self importence while Obama or even that dolt Gibbs are reading the answers to their pre made up questions on the teleprompter.
It would probably be easier to just turn those seats around toward the teleprompter so they could copy their big stories and falsehoods right off the teleprompter.
What a joke this all is.
How does a President use a pulpit that's been eliminated by the aforementioned liberal news media and the Democrats?
Justice Roberts did not, a very good telepromter, make.
Ok, r9, explain how this will work in “real life and death” discussions with world leaders. Reading notes during face to face negotiations REALLY shows one’s hand.
