Very good post and spot on...we must build a winning coalition-including conservatives and reaching out to others...we are still a center right country and the GOP could win with decent candidates with broad appeal.

No, DeWine lost because he willfully pissed off the base. Conservatives didn’t support him because he didn’t support Conservatives. We do not serve Senators, sir, they serve us. When they do wrong, as DeWine did, do not expect us to rubber-stamp their actions. Maybe if he had considered that, he’d still be sitting in the Senate today. But please don’t try to sell me the line that nominating RINOs yields us massive victories. If that were the case, New England, the North East, and the West Coast would be overflowing with GOP elected officials. There’s almost none in those places, because when the electorate is faced with a choice between a liberal Democrat and liberal Republican, they go with the real deal.

Actually what a real leader does is inspire more people to join the base (and thus vote for them) by eloquently espousing the principals of conservatism. Which is why these Rinos don’t have a clue. They are just socialists that don’t really know anything about conservate thougt.

You would do well listening to some common sense. We need to shift Right not Left. You are with us or against us.

Well replacing DeWine with Brown certainly helps no one...the stimulus would not have gone through without Brown’s vote...but you are right-hard line conservatives defeated DeWine...I just don’t see how that helps us...now we will have to unseat an incumbent Democrat-no easy task...I sincerely hope Voinivich’s seat goes to a Repub...Kasich might be a good choice. We shall see.

Shifting hard right will win you no votes in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania and other states...it might not even win Virginia and North Carolina. This will not work...but I guess it’s going to take losing more elections before people wake up to the truth.

Kicked out in the context of kicking out the incumbent party. Remember that we ran a TrueconservativeTM Blackwell for Governor and he got blown out by almost 24 points by a liberal 'Rat. That isn't the kind of result you can spin away.

RINO or not, DeWine got creamed by a liberal 'Rat with a voting record to the left of Dennis Kucinich (!). Again, we just can't write that off as bad campaigning or sharing the mud of a political scandal in an unrelated state office. The loss is just by too decisive a margin to ignore the shift in political trends.

I hope you are right about the pending gubernatorial contest in VA. It's just too important a state (like OH) to be in the 'Rat column for long. And yes, sometimes elections run in streaks. The 'Rats owned the governor's office for two elections in the '80s (Richard Celeste). Then the 'Pubs took over for four contests (Voinovich and Taft).

“because when the electorate is faced with a choice between a liberal Democrat and liberal Republican, they go with the real deal.”

Perhaps you might consider Rick Santorum...he was a great conservative and lost rather badly in PA to Casey.

A true conservative would not have to worry about winning RINO states. The base would actually be excited about their candidate, what a shock!!!

If we live in a country slowly shifting left, RINOS listen to me: Might as well take it over the cliff. Maybe the sheeple will wake up.

OK, do what you gotta do. And no, I’m not ashamed of you. As far as the “redneck loser” label, no, I don’t think so. Differences of opinion on political matters should not be the basis for personal insults.

Snowe: My Party Has Changed

Gee, ya think? Was that not YOUR main objective, you twit?

The Republican Main Street Partnership was founded in 1998 to promote thoughtful leadership in the Republican Party, and to partner with individuals, organizations and institutions that share centrist values.

I never like McCain...however, I supported him based on the fact he was GOP. History was against us in this election...think about how many times the party in power has taken the presidency after eight years? Bush I (Reagan’s influence) and Truman...not many. Plus the economy tanked under Pres. Bush...not his fault completely, but the President and his party are always blamed.

I'm sticking with you and nyconse and anyone else who will stand with me to fight the real enemy. And the real enemies are not on FR, but in the halls of Congress and the WH. We should focus on beating them however we can within the rules.

What is this “hard-right” nonsense ? That’s media liberalspeak. Using that sort of language still doesn’t change what I said. Do the Senators serve us or do we serve them ? DeWine would’ve been there to vote “no” on Porkulus had he not given the finger to the base prior to the ‘06 election. Why don’t you blame the person responsible instead of attacking the voters for not supporting someone who REFUSED to do what they wanted ? I don’t vote for people who ignore my wishes, and I voted against my RINO Senator last year and for a “None of the Above” candidate (partly because the RINO was pandering more to Democrats than to his own GOP base, and the Dems were VERY happy with him — and this in a now heavily and growing GOP state that voted for McCain on par with Nixon’s 1972 blowout).

With respect to Kasich, he might win, but I think we need younger blood in there with a strong commitment to reform. Of course, Ohio went through most of the Reagan era without a Republican leader in the top three offices (when the Socialist Democrat Metzenbaum and Glenn and Gov. Celeste dominating). If Kasich wins, it will also be partly because of the unpopularity of the False Messiah in the 2010 midterms.
