Why would the unions support any GOP? The GOP has been hostile to the Unions in the last decades...Reagan was the last president who reached out to them. Also, with union membership down to 12% nationwide...the GOP has more trouble then unions...if Obama depended on Union vote, he would have lost.

You don’t get it...I worked for McCain...there are GOP here who will never vote GOP again...and they are not union either because of manufacturing job losses...trade. The GOP has been dubbed the party of free trade. Now there are so many people out of work who watched the GOP Senators (despised in Ohio) like Shelby talk about killing autos...it’s almost over for the GOP in Ohio. I would remind you that no GOP president has ever one without Ohio...only twice did the candidate who won, win without Ohio...during the election of 1944 (Roosevelt had an Ohio VP named Bricker) and during the Kennedy election...Nixon took Ohio but lost the general (maybe). In any case , Kennedy assumed the presidency. You can kick out all the RINO’s and everyone who does not agree with you, but what will be left?

Yeah... I'll give you that but listen to steele and watch what the leadership does... they were forced to stand tall this time (public pressure) but you had better believe that the repubic leadership has sharpened their knives and will stick me and you right in the back when they get the chance.

A regional GOP is a castrated party.

The GOP has castrated itself without any hint of "regionalism". How? By acting like liberals for the last 8 years. The party has been leaning leftward for quite a while, and has lost membership as a result. That almost all Republicans voted against this bloated bill is but a small sign that they might have learned a lesson by losing the last 2 election cycles by a large margin.

I left the party in 2005 when, through their attempt to ram amnesty through under the cover of darkness, the party alienated every conservative in this country. They showed complete disdain for the plethora of citizens that did NOT want their country overrun by foreigners who had absolutely no allegiance to the United States.

Who knows why?

Who cares why?

All we KNOW is they did the right thing, and Obama barely got the damn thing through.

In some ways she is right. Too many Republicans have followed these RINOs and even made the mistake of nominating John McCain. However, with the exception of Snowe Collins and Spector the GOP has awoke to the danger at our door and for the first time since 1994 been united in a common cause. Yes, Olympia the GOP has changed, but you remained stuck on stupid.

You are a Southern state.

True, and south of the Rappahannock nothing has changed. Your state's history is one of aggression and federalism. My state,VA, has a history of standing up to the Federalists(albiet for the wrong reason)and aggressors. With work, there is hope that VA will be a conservative state again, will NY be an aggressor again?

I care... I want a long term Victory and if we grow complacent and go back to being meek and mild and lose our anger and willingness to call and write DC... we will lose our Nation... we have to stay strong and fight all these people that were elected and are in jobs that are far beyond their abilities... so I care and you had better start caring too!

Well, let’s see: GHW Bush wasn’t acceptable, nor was Dole, nor was Frist, nor was Lott, nor was Newt, nor was Bob Livingston, nor was Hastert, nor is Boehner, nor is McConnell.... “Head ‘em up, move ‘em out...rawhide!”

Well, let's see:

GHWBush allowed himself in 'can't we get along' maneuver by the lying crooked liberals to do the very thing he stated he would NOT do.... 'raise taxes'. And the lying crooked liberals played him like a very fine violin.

Bob Dole... fine man, but had NO CLUE how to campaign against lover boy.

Frist did not do what he said he would do the the 'heart' of liberalism.

Lott, never left the sidelines of just being a cheerleader for the 'game'. He was always giving up ground and the liberals chewed him up and spit him out.

Newt, I learned more about our founding, conservative principles from Newt's education class than any other living person. Newt will always be a hero to me, he led the charge to speak directly to the American people and return the people's House back to the majority taxpayers. Newt is probably in the top ten of the most hated Americans by the left. Newt forgot who and what liberals are and do and he gave them stupid openings to launch campaigns for the sole purpose of his destruction. Sadly Newt displayed he was human and he fell from the 'grace' of many on the Republican side.

Bob Livingston did not want his family destroyed by liberals who have no standards. I do not recall him staying around long enough to gather conservative/republican support. Although given how playboy Bill got the most attention publicly for being a slut, that really was NOT what the grievances against him were about, held in secret in a government office building.

Hastert, was put in that position, to deflect, and allow Tom Delay to H A M M E R!!!! But the majority of the moderate elite despised Delay as much as the liberals did and could not wait for him to be dispatched, by what ever means necessary. So dear Mr. Haster tried to shepherd all the far flung moderate tent pegs that got seniority in the GOP and became outed as having double standards.

Boehner has risen through the seniority system, and thus far he has demonstrated 'survivability' skills. He has great opportunity to shepherd a conservative agenda and time will tell how much of liberalism seduces him into looking out for self.

McConnell, if he can control the R-hogs and gang of mavericks then he will have done well for the conservative agenda. I give him a 50-50% chance in having that skill or conviction.

I don’t care what part of the state you live in, you are still represented by Dems...and a Dem agenda. I could say the same in Ohio. However, your government is mostly Dem.

Government jobs are now the UNION and they will do whatever it takes to keep their jobs and increase their membership.

UNION has two meanings. ONE the bureaucracy... those who do NOT one productive thing but cost money, both for the company and for their union members. The other meaning is the literal on the job worker, producing the product.

THE GOP would NOT take on the UNION hierarchy directly, but conceived the idea that ‘free trade’ would take the control from UNION bosses that restricted profits and growth.

Reagan was NOT afraid of the UNIONS, he knew who and what the ‘bosses’ that control the money and the freedom of its members were all about.

Liberals were also for ‘free trade’ which President was it that herded NAFTA through the Congress?

The GOP became ‘open borders’ globalists using laborers as a commodity. But the UNION bosses really can't complain because the too use ‘labors’ as their commodities.

Liberals and GOP ‘open borders’ crowd ought to be open and start selling their commodities laborers on a legal exchange.

GTH Yank. We have graveyards down here full of guys that had your attitude, that never made it back to NY. History may repeat itself, whether we like it or not. I don’t want this. It is the Northern Yankee RINO that has ruined the Republican party. Plain and simple. The fact that you can stand to live there speaks volumes about you. Please join the Dems....

The union members of the 80’s respected Reagan who was fair in his dealing with him...many voted for him aka Reagan Democrats...as for unions, the biggest one is the government unions...so?

We are talking about the destruction of an entire region of the country (Mid West). Billions of lost wages, taxes etc. It’s being blamed on the GOP...although I believe Clinton is also culpable (NAFTA). The GOP can not just keep throwing away entire regions of the country and expect to have a meaningful role in American politics. I am a military brat (navy).

My Mom is from Virginia (Albermarle Country). I lived in Virginia and spent 10 years as an adult in Georgia. The sort of conservatism practiced in the South will not work in Ohio or many other Northern States...it just won’t. Thus there is a choice...become more of a big tent party and get some things done...or cede everything to the Dems.

I do understand what you are saying and I used to say it myself, and if she were of some help to US on the fundamental issues that can and will destroy our country, I'd still say it knowing that Maine will not give us anything better.

All three stooges voted for the "Dream Act" and Porkulous, both of which are destructive to our country. Maybe she will stand up against the really destructive Supreme Court picks Present Obama will appoint and that would really be worth something, but can we count on her given what she's already done and what she's saying?

It sure sounds to me like Snowe is setting the stage for a switch (probably in return for being back in the majority and getting a chairmanship of a committee or something...). If she switches, don't expect one crumb of support for anything Republican.

I guess it comes down to whether or not you figure she's preparing for a big, dramatic triumph for Present Obama as He collects a defecting Republican which will also feature HER as a major DNC/media hero for months. I think she's going to. I could be wrong.

Don’t talk to me about graveyards...I have a family graveyard near Charlottesville Virginia and was raised on the stories about the ‘War of Northern Aggression’ as my dear Aunties called it...I know all about it...Virginia was a border state and sent men to both armies...I had ancestors who fought for the union and the Confederacy. You talk silliness, the only reason the union dead are buried in Virginia is that the war was fought on Southern soil...not a good thing.
