WARPLANES raided a militant hideout in northwestern Afghanistan overnight, killing two rebel commanders and several fighters, the US-led military and a police official said.

A rebel compound was targeted in the province of Badghis, a troubled region on the Turkmenistan border, the US-led force said in a statement.

Mullah Dastagir, a key militant leader and several of his associates were killed in the "precision air strike", the statement said.

Dastagir was responsible for several attacks on Afghan and international forces, including a deadly ambush last November, the statement added.

"Dastagir was responsible for an increase in violence in Badghis over recent months. In November, Dastagir was responsible for an attack on an Afghan National Army convoy that killed 13 soldiers," it added.

Several other rebels in the same compound were also killed in the raid, said the military. It did not give further details.

Sayed Ahmad Sameh, Badghis provincial police chief, confirmed the incident and said 10 Taliban, including two commanders, were killed in the air raid.

"Mullah Dastagir and Mullah Baz Mohammad, two big Taliban commanders and eight of their men were killed in the air strike by the coalition forces," he said.

Dastagir got it in the ear, will spend eternity looking for his rear.

Baz got bagged; now his foot is tagged. (They couldn’t find the rest of him, so his foot is all that remains, a fate so grim).

A tear!

“Dastagir was behind a series of attacks in Badghis, including an ambush in which 13 Afghan soldiers were killed last November, they added.

Before that ambush, Dastagir had been jailed but was released by order of President Hamid Karzai, a defense ministry official said.”
