4th Annual TEXAS COWBOY MEMORIAL SHOOT
October 16-18, 2009 ~ Seagoville, TX
The North Texas FReepers are most happy to host this years annual TEXAS COWBOY Memorial Shoot. Please join us in this gathering to once again celebrate the life and memory of Elroy and his notion of fun and friendship.
Links To Previous Texas Cowboy Memorial Shoots!
Location: 5 miles south of Route 175 and 3.5 miles NE of I-45 (exit 270) on S. Belt Line Road, near Seagoville, TX This is privately leased land with exclusive use for the weekend.
We will be camping out there that weekend. Y'all are invited to join us for as long as you can stay.
There is plenty of room for camping and we can set up as many as 3 isolated ranges and a free for all along the river. There are also gongs along the river edge at 400 yards. There are no range Nazi's, but the owner has asked for $16 a head for the weekend use of it. He promised to provide picnic tables and exclusive use.
The road in is a bit rough and there is a steep but short hill. So anyone without a high clearance vehicle will have to park up top and we will caravan them in. Or for the daring, We will have a winch to pull ya back up. There will be a modest latrine / shower tent set up as well as a fire pit and some cooking equipment, grills, screen tent, and a 7K watt generator if anyone needs power for their camper. It's a good size parcel, so folks can camp away from the shooting area on flat land near trees or in open area. Plenty of room for dogs too! There are motels within 10 miles in Seagoville.
Area Hotel Information Can Be Found HERE!
A private room will reserved at the "Cotton Gin" in Crandall for diner after the shoot for those that prefer not to camp cook. Besides the great food, it also has free Wi-Fi.
Check Out The Crandall Cotton Gin HERE!
Camping will be the plan for the weekend. The property is a very large wooded area next to a river. It's less than five miles NE of exit 280 of I45 on E. Belt Line Road. Many folks prefer to camp out and cook out at the land, so let's make it a side dish ta pass and bring your own meat to grill (or share) We will be setting up camp early Friday, so if y'all want to take the day off and join in, that would be most kind!
The weather should be great and the TX State Fair will still be open for those that might want to attend.

Elroy was one of my first buddies when I joined FR He was the very first FReeper I met in person. El Roy and I exchanged notes and experiences in the oilfield via Freep Mail for about a year before I had the privilege of meeting him in person. I had no idea what he looked like. At the the shoot down in New Braunsfeld, I looked at the people there and saw what I was sure El Roy. I walked up to the man and said, "You look like oilfield trash to me." He smiled and put his hand out to shake. I knew in an instant that he was one of the few, whose handshake was better than any contract a lawyer could write.
He and I had worked many of the same areas in the world while in the oilfield, unfortunately not at the same time. We spoke and laughed about some of the places and dives we had both been in.
DAMN BUT I MISS HIM.

The lady and I went down to the river yesterday and it’s still torn up a bit. Large standing puddles and mosquitoes. We picked pecans, picked up brass and shot a little.
The funny thing is a truckload of people went over to the trees we had picked over and then the guys went over to the area we had picked up the brass. They walked right over to us without ear protection so we stopped shooting. They left after a few minutes. They wouldn’t have last very long without the protection anyway.

Nice Turkey!
I hear 'em but I can never get a shot. They stay down by the
San Saba river where other folks get to shoot 'em. :-(
Venison hams make up for it, though.
To: humblegunner
Very excellent...!!
I'm still making jerky from that 220 Buck.....Went bow hunting for some meat last night...never saw a deer. Had a bunch of yearling steers come in though.....hehe.
Got to call them turkey's up to ya! Ha!

Are you gonna not tell me what's with the Mexican Waist rope on the buck? I'm old, he was heavy and I need a handle on his heavy end to get him loaded.
I always carry that lanyard. Throw it around his ass-end and grab
it close and one front leg and you can toss those suckers anywhere!
