Accused rapist escapes while receiving medical treatment

A prisoner being treated at an Oroville hospital escaped this morning and has not been found.

Michael Dean Nunley II, 52, was being guarded by a private security company at 3:30 a.m. today when he slipped his restraints, ran past the security officer and out of Oroville Hospital.

Standard routine in Jacksonville, FL and I'm guessing most places.

And here's a better one. If a perp is injured during capture, the police won't arrest them until AFTER they are released from the hospital (so they don't have to pay for the treatment).

My wife, as an ER doc, has had the police tell her to make sure the perp doesn't leave until after they arrive back to pick them up. To which she smiles and explains that unless they are under police guard, they can leave any time they wish, or the hospital will be guilty of false imprisonment. This always confuses the police.

She had to suffer through the "protection" of a Pinkerton Guard several years ago that was a ~65 year old female who had a physical disability which prevented her from actually reaching her own gun, and was regular charged with watching the prison inmates at the hospital.

I policed for a few years in the 50’s and most every Saturday night I was called to the hospital to meet the ambulance and take possession of a prisoner, or interview someone laying on a gurney covered in blood.
