NORTH PARK When a coin-shop owner and an employee found themselves looking down the barrel of a robber's gun yesterday, they fought back with weapons of their own. The midmorning shootout in the tiny shop on El Cajon Boulevard left the armed robber dead and his uninjured accomplice on the run, police said. Authorities said Michael Anthony Watkins Jr., 26, of San Diego collapsed on the sidewalk from gunshot wounds to his leg and lower back and died shortly afterward at a hospital

I guess he was looking to steal a bunch of those highly valued Obama coins.

Shopkeeper needs to aim a little higher next time. This is the only improvement I can add to an otherwise splendid story.

The comments at the end of the story are interesting. It sounds like these shopowners are definitely not the type to suffer fools (or criminals) lightly.
As for the perp...it’s sad to see someone throw their life away, but that is the price he paid for choosing to prey upon others rather than to pursue a life of honest work. It’s no one’s fault but his own.

Hope the owner is OK. Prayers for that misguided soul that gave up his life for a criminal pursuit.

You got that right. My local coin shop owner wears a .45 on his hip.

Hey ARRRRnold, why don't you release another third of the prisoners in the state prisons, just buy some shells for coin shop owners.

I used to frequent coin shops a lot and knew several owners, I believe they are all armed to the teeth.

And if they catch his compadre he’ll be guilty of murder, if the laws there are like many states.

One scumbag dead with two bullets and one running away uninjured is o.k..
The judges give him a 6.4
To score a perfect 10, he would have had to drop both scumbags inside the shop with one bullet to the head apiece.
Still, a nice freshman effort from the up and coming rookie.

Holy cow. Anyone see the size of one of the cops in the photo in the link?
