Any company that relies upon foreign sales...can start laying folks off next month. Whatever the idiots thought they were going to save....will simply mean lesser production of other items.

Probably one of the reasons Obama couldn't find a Caterpillar employee to support his stimulus package in front of that Illinois congressman.

A trade war that, under the current administration, we will lose.

Of course, losing is the desired outcome. That provides an excellent excuse to nationalize the banks, the steel and oil industries, the railroad and construction industries, and on and on and on.....

Proving once again, if you wrap socialism in an American flag, Democrats will find a True Conservative™ to fall for it.

Of course, losing is the desired outcome.

That's the Democrats desired outcome. Others 1. presume to choose some jobs over others, 2. are just plain miserable and want others to be miserable as well, or 3. simply fear liberty and want Uncle Sugar to set things right.

For years (during the expansion) we heard nothing but, “the Gubmint must do something!” Now it has, and they’re bitching about it. LOL

"Smoot-Hawley II?"

Don't fear Smoot-Hawley II. If it wasn't for Smoot-Hawley we would have lost WW II. Imagine if we had exported our manufacturing to Germany, Japan and China where we would be today.

Protectionism is patriotism in war and business. Bring those exported jobs and factories back here. Trade means we buy from you and you buy from us. Not exporting our seed corn for cheap consumer goods. That just perpetuates unemployment.

People need to start looking at the facts on the ground:

1. The steel industry has yet to ask for a bailout, but people feel that they are protecting national security by throwing money at it,
2. the auto industry (specifically, the Big Three, also essential for national security) has asked for a loan and gotten grief (oh, and "no but we can make your steel more expensive, how's that?") and in that vein,
3. Caterpillar, a heavy equipment manufacturer (also essential for national security) is practically begging our government not to do anything, because its business and therefore jobs will suffer.

What are we proctecting, again?
