WASHINGTON (CNN) — More and more Democrats in Congress are calling for action that Republicans warn could muzzle right-wing talk radio.

Representative Maurice Hinchey, a Democrat from New York is the latest to say he wants to bring back the "Fairness Doctrine," a federal regulation scrapped in 1987 that would require broadcasters to present opposing views on public issues.

"I think the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated," Hinchey told CNNRadio. Hinchey says he could make it part of a bill he plans to introduce later this year overhauling radio and t-v ownership laws.

It’s OK as long as they impose it on Hollywood too ;-)

You know, if I had a business and I ran it into the ground, following Democrat logic, shouldn’t I be able to get money from the government to keep my business afloat even though I can’t make any money at it? I mean, others have successful businesses, that’s not fair, is it?

Oops! Forgot! Logic is a foreign concept in Liberal circles.

I kind of hope they actually do this. For one people will see the democrats for what they really are which are Fascist and/or socialists if not already. Second can you imagine Rush, Hannity, Levin, Beck and all the rest going up to testify. They would have a field day ripping the dems apart for all to see in the hearings.

I say we descend upon Washington, DC en masse and create a massive traffic jam with horns blowing all around the Capitol Blg.

That's been tried before and it failed.

Take a gander at what happened to the Bonus Army when they tried it.

No doubt there are ways .... but we are not into doing them at this time.

Look, it's AM radio that's their target, but it's getting ready to die. Even if the Leftwingtards could come up with folks who could rationally discuss popular topics (which they can't) there are only so many advertisers willing to push products on AM.

There may be more for FM but not all that many.

What you have to have to make this work is a NETWORK, which our people have and which their people can't figure out how to do.

While AM is taking a dive, along with satellite radio, the internet continues to grow and become more complex.

Some of the best sites on the net are actually "open territory" with all voices able to make their opinions known. Virtually none of the Leftwingtard sites are "open territory". They don't want dissent over there, nor can they comprehend why anyone would deviate from their scripted positions.

Although it may be difficult to figure out how and where a "Fairness Doctrine" would fit into the internet, it's Fur Shur that it'd have to be applied to the Leftwingtard sites first.

I wonder how many jobs would be de-stimulated by that sort of action?

I have a feeling Rush is working on something. I have no idea what-—but would the “unFairness Doctrine” cover internet streaming broadcasts that didn’t originate from an actual radio network?

Remember this about the tyrants all down through history. They ALWAYS overplay their hand and a backlash will be worse than their foward lash.

Plus Dems have the White House, Congress and Senate. Foisting the Fairness Doctrine on us will threaten their majority...I say bring it on libtards.

Rush has things up his sleeve. If they really go for the

Censorship Doctrine, we’ll mobilize like never before.

I relish the battle.

Not neccesarily. Consider the double standard about political canidates being promoted by churches. If Dem, its A-OK if not...then the tax-exempt status is at risk.

CNN has posted this in the comment section:

Comments have been closed for this article

Read the comments. They are very interesting. Several libs expressed opposition to the Fairness Doctrine calling it what it really is: Censorship. So, with some libs crossing the aisle and the rest of the Libs demanding that the Right be silenced, its no wonder they closed the comments section.

***More and more Democrats in Congress are calling for action that Republicans warn could muzzle right-wing talk radio. ***

Why don’t they just start up their own radio stations and blast the Liberal viewpoint! they could call it AIR AMERICA and OBAMA radio. Oh, they already did and no one listened did they!

I propose we continue to allow the pukes at CNN to say whatever they wish, whenever they wish, but only after the re-imposition of the dueling code.

I'm not a big fan of demonstrations, but they can be effective.

As an example, an American prisoner of war in North Vietnam once said that a North Vietnamese officer told him that the Communists would win the Vietnam War on the streets of New York--and they did.

In addition, if you read all the way through the article to which your post is linked, you will notice that the Bonus Army eventually got its bonus.

Yep. You’re right, Lurker. They fired on, and killed, their very own... It speaks volumes about our govt. and they’d do it again in a heartbeat with this Rat bunch in office.
We gotta be smarter, but hit em where it really hurts.

Can’t Rush Limbaugh sue ABC News and CNN for equal time under such a statute?
