WASHINGTON – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid predicted Friday that Congress will finish its work on a massive, $787 billion economic stimulus plan, possibly by day's end, giving President Barack Obama a big victory.

Speaking as debate resumed on Capitol Hill, the Nevada Democrat said the Senate would likely vote on the package of spending and tax cuts later in the day and that the finished product could be sent to Obama's desk soon thereafter.

"We expect to be in a position to vote on adoption of the conference report," Reid said at the start of the Senate day.

Obama, addressing a White House group, noted that lawmakers had a "spirited debate" and said the legislation is "only the beginning" of what he considers necessary "to turn our economy around." The president did not get all he wanted out of the bill.

I think it's fair to say that none of them have even read it. This should be criminal.

Look at the bright side... you’ll be able to go from Disneyland to Vegas on a high speed train.

This is just the beginning - if people think that this is the worst thing that Obama will do then they are fooling themselves.

NOW IS THE TIME TO GET ORGANIZED - WE NEED TO DEVELOP A COMMUNITY IN EVERY CITY, EVERY TOWN THAT WILL WORK TO DEFEND EACH OTHER AND THE CONSTITUTION.

Either we do it now or when the civil defense group of thugs is set loose by Obama we will all be silenced.

I read on some Dem site (maybe DU, can’t remember) that since Kennedy isn’t coming back for the vote, and some other Dem senator is at a funeral or some such, Dingy Harry will delay the vote till later this evening when the Senator can get back from the funeral. This will make Lieberman (who observes the Sabbath) walk to the Capitol, as it will be after sundown. Whether any of that’s true or not, don’t know.

And isn’t this just lovely: Obama, addressing a White House group, noted that lawmakers had a “spirited debate” and said the legislation is “only the beginning” of what he considers necessary “to turn our economy around.”

You don’t get a lot of do-overs when you’re passing almost trillion dollar bills through Congress.

I have just been in phone contact with both the RNC and the RNSC (National Republican Senatorial Commettee) regarding campaign funding for Collins, Snowe, and Specter. The RNC directed me to the RNSC regarding matters pertaining to the distribution of funds to the various senators. I suggested that the RNSC communicate to the senators today the ultimatum that if they voted for this Porkulus bill, they would not get any campaign funds next election. The RNSC spokesperson said she would pass my concerns on to John Cornyn (Chairman of the RNSC), but not necessarily today. I expressed my dissatisfaction with this response and asked if they had received any other calls on this subject, and she said, "no."

I find this hard to beleive......can it be true they have received no calls on this subject?
