Bill Press floundering radio show seems to be the place where Democrat senators go to say stupid things. Last week is was Senator Debbie Stabenow who wanted the Fairness Doctrine. This week its Senator Tom Harkin.
They are just shutting down progressive talk from one city after another, Press said. All we want is, you know, some balance on the airwaves, thats all. You know, were not going to take any of the conservative voices off the airwaves, but just make sure that there are a few progressives and liberals out there, right?
Thats why we need the Fairness Doctrine back, Harkin responded.
We hereby propose the Congressional Fairness Doctrine. Heres how it works:...

Devil Stab-em-now... another killer of freedom.
This isn’t anything new for Harkin. He introduced a bill to bring it back several years ago. It died in committee.
What about Nazi Pelosi’s fairness rules in Congress?
Her husband is a left wing (Air America) broadcaster.
“All we want is, you know, for Talk Radio to stop exposing our lies and corruption on the airwaves, thats all.”
Well, yes...and conservatives want some “fairness” on network TV, the newspapers, and university faculties.
Radio is paid for by ads. Ad buys are based on the numbers of listeners. The only place that mushy liberal talk show hosts can make it is NPR, funded by the government. It is way past time for taxpayer-funded NPR to have a balance of conservative and liberal commentators and programs, so yes, let’s start the “fairness doctrine” at NPR and PBS.
"Speaking of talk radio (which I listen to constantly), I remain incredulous that any Democrat who professes liberal values would give a moment's thought to supporting a return of the Fairness Doctrine to muzzle conservative shows. (My latest manifesto on this subject appeared in my last column.) The failure of liberals to master the vibrant medium of talk radio remains puzzling. To reach the radio audience (whether the topic is sports, politics or car repair), a host must have populist instincts and use the robust common voice. Too many Democrats have become arrogant elitists, speaking down in snide, condescending tones toward tradition-minded middle Americans whom they stereotype as rubes and buffoons. But the bottom line is that government surveillance of the ideological content of talk radio is a shocking first step toward totalitarianism."
One of the nuggets I've gleaned from several radio sources is that Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow, who has been in the aggressive forefront of the campaign to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine, is married to Tom Athans, who works extensively with left-wing radio organizations and was once the executive vice-president of Air America, the liberal radio syndicate that, despite massive publicity from major media, has failed miserably to win a national audience. Stabenow's outrageous conflict of interest has of course been largely ignored by the prestige press, which should have been demanding that she recuse herself from all political involvement with this issue.[my emphasis]
We need to be shouting this every time Stabenow speaks on this topic.
There have been/ are a few progressive and liberal talk shows... Is it our fault that they’re failures... not enough people watch or listen to these neanderthalls?
Of course Democrats want the ‘Fairness Doctrine’ back. It is the only way they can guarantee the only voice that will be heard is theirs.
Not only that, but he went to a prostitute. His lovely wife is trying to get back at him. That’s her agenda. That it will muzzle Republicans is a nice bonus.
Fairness Doctrine for Soda Brands
Pepsi and Coca-Cola dominate the carbonated soft drink industry. In order to make this market fair and give all brands such as Dr Pepper, Vess, Cheerwine and Royal Crown an equal opportunity to compete for consumers, the federal government will garrantee that all soda brands will have an equal amount of shelf space in a retail enviroment, all brands use the exact same marketing tools for promotion of product, and product innovation will be discouraged. Furthermore, If one particular brand outpreforms the others , the over preforming brand will be penalized and the other brands will be subsidized so that all brands are once again equal.
Fairness doctrine, a beautiful thing, republicans should start demanding equal time on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, hollywood, NPR, Air America, etc. etc. etc. if it’s good for the dems it’s good for the repubs.
That's because nobody wants to listen to "progressive talk"--and that's because PROPAGANDA IS BORING!
Having lived in Iowa for many years I know there are major AM radio stations in that state that receive most of their revenue from conservative talk radio. I doubt that there would be enough audience in any major markets in the state that could profitably air “progressive” drivel like Air America. If the Fairness Doctrine is imposed, I would believe that many of these Iowa radio stations would fail financially. What would Harkin do? ...probably seek a federal bailout for failing stations that cannot pay their bills because they are forced to carry left wing drivel that no sponsor would touch.
I don’t want the Fairness Doctrine in any way, shape, or form. However, it would be funny to see how the ratings stack up when the elitist lefties try to take on Rush, Hannity, Levin and company. It will be a slaughter.
I think we can get many in congress to agree. At least it's worth a try.
Thats why we need the Fairness Doctrine back, Harkin responded.
This is the idiot who stood behind Dean and cheered when he did his famous scream that lost him the DEM nomination. He is also the guy who claimed he flew Navy Fighters in Vietnam and didn’t. What an Asshat.
Liberal talk radio fails because most liberals can’t discuss the issues....and their listeners would rather listen to radio consisting of “fart jokes”, “strippers”, “hookers”, and other related stuff.
I sent a nasty e-mail to Tom Harkin telling him what I thought of his support for the Fairness Doctrine that he and his socialist friends want to pass.
