Sen. Corker puts Hold on Porklus vote
CNN | 2/13/09

Posted on 02/13/2009 4:18:09 AM PST by pabianice

Per the crawl this morning on CNN, Sen. Corker has put a Hold on Porkuls, stating that he wants a chance to read it before voting. Bill has reportedly swollen from 800 to 1,500 pages as Dems keep putting-back everything the Senate removed.

Saw crawl as I was watching news about the ColganAir crash at 5:00AM.

-- The cloiture vote was already taken... --

Most bills have multiple steps where cloture could be necessary in order to overcome a recalcitrant senator.

Motion to take up a bill
Agreement to vote on an amendment
Agreement to vote on final passage
Motion to take up a conference report is NOT debatable, so no cloture there
Agreement to vote on a conference report IS debatable. This conference report has no statutory time limit for debate. Some subject matters have statutory time limits for debate, budget resolutions being one subject matter with a statutory time limit for debate, IIRC.

First I hope he posts a searchable text on the internet so that ALL Americans can at least get a look at everything in it.

One of Obamalamadingdong's campaign promises was that any bill the comes to his desk would be posted on the White House website for a period of five days so that everyone would have a chance to read it. This was part of his "transparency" pledge. Of course, the first two bills that crossed his desk were signed almost immediately, one in a matter of hours after passage. Of course, the drive by media is silent.....

-- the 3 Hookers will vote only "present" if they bother to show up at all. --

They're pretty dug in as to supporting the DEM position (they call it "compromise" hoping enough of their constituents are mollified). They'll vote to limit to debate, and they'll vote to pass it. Worst case is Specter, who may vote to limit debate, then vote against passage. The two shyster sisters from Maine won't vote against final passage.

Maybe if Specter is forced to mull the consequences of his treachery for a few more days, he may decide that backstabbing the Rats would be a better legacy choice right now than backstabbing his own party.

ROTFLOL

Good one... You were making a joke, right?

Translation: The train is leaving the station and not every senator has all his bags of pork on yet.

More likely is that some Demo Senators want to be re-elected in 2010 and 2012 more than they want to pass this obviously bad legislation.

Picking off three relatively conservative Demo Senators is very possible.

Yep, transparency! And the lamestream media were quiet as mice, in fact they were as quiet as Nancy Pelosi’s 30 million dollar mice.

“When are we going to be required to have his photo hanging in our home?”

I would put it in the bottom of the toilet where I could crap on it.

Arlen Sphincter already faced a serious primary challenge from a conservative before his last election, but the RNC and Jorge Bush came to his rescue, IIRC.

Isn’t he the one who said they wouldn’t hold it up?

When are we going to be required to have his photo hanging in our home?

They will have to kill me before I would put his picture in my house. I’m sure they would have no problem with that.

Tried to send an e-mail to my Sen. Cornyn and ask him to do everything he could possibly do, even threaten committee assignments (he’s the Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman) to the three traitors voting for this bill....His Mailbox is full!

He also said, publicly, he wouldn't obstruct the Amnesty bill, then proceeded to do just that (until it died).

Yeah, but the RNC is under new management and Bush is gone, and the state GOP told Specter yesterday that he would not necessarily get its support in 2010 during the primary, giving him a lot to think about over the weekend.

That’s what I heard. Need 60 votes for cloture.

And Reid just announced that Kennedy has taken ill and will not available to vote.

And we know how Gregg is going to vote.

That just leaves the turncoats — Specter, and the two Maine-iacs as defectors.

Don’t think they can get the 60 votes needed. Maybe, please God, this pork package will die.

"Yes, We Can"

Guess what, Commie? No, you can't. Maybe the good, decent, honorable politicians in the House and the Senate will stop you, and I'm hoping there are some there to do the job. Maybe the people of the United States of America, strengthened by the Second Amendment, will stop you, and I won't be cheering for Big Government to win. Maybe Adam Smith's invisible hand will stop you, and even your thuggish civilian security force can't help you win that one. Maybe you really are the anti-Christ, which would surprise me a whole lot less today than it would have a year ago ... but I've read the book and I know you'll still be stopped.

The bottom line: No, you can't!

Me? I’m not in a hurry. I think we should have had no bill - no stimulus, no bailouts, no TARP, no government interference with the Bear Stearns, etc. - nothing, nada from the beginning, and let the bankruptcy courts figure it out.

I was just pointing out that once the 3 RINOs did their damage in the first Senate vote, it didn’t matter what they did in this one. It would take a dozen Democrat defections, plus the RINO “no” vote to make a difference.

This looks like the end of America forever, and it makes me sick to my stomach.
